Visited the Waterloo at the weekend. What a great pub. It had a real buzz about it. Some other pubs were quiet, but there were lots of people in here and it was great to see people enjoying themselves. Not sure who the landlord and landlady were (David & Alison form the previous poster might still be there), but well worth a visit.

I've been in this pub a few times over the years. Always found it full of great locals having a laugh and enjoying the good beer on offer. I went in last week and all of that had gone. What is normally one of the busiest nights of the week and it was dead, the landlady (I know it was her because I spoke to her briefly) wasn't welcoming at all - quite the opposite. Beer isn't what it was either. It's lost the atmosphere that it had, no longer is it the warm welcoming pub I remember.
If you're doing the Westgate run, I give this a miss. There's is no real reason to visit. Move on to the next pub! Sharpish.

The British Oak, Wakefield
The chef is a genius! The food at this pub is undoubtedly the best pub grub in Wakefield. Great menu and you can tell it's proper home-cooked grub.
Shame about the miserable landlady. I have to say that this pub's popularity is down to the food and not the attitude of the female owner - some people don't have the manners they're born with.
But, my fellow diners and drinkers, don't let that put you off. Great pub, nice atmosphere, fantastic food. Ok, it's a drive away but it's well worth it.
