The Old Original, Scouthead

This pub is just down the road from me and I've had some mixed experiences with it. The food is OK, although the locally sourced fillet steaks were absolutely sublime last time we had them.

The only way I can describe this pub is patchy, the problem is they get extremely neurotic about tables, there are times when you go in on spec or even phone the same day and they're incredibly rude to you "you want a table? Who the hell do you think you are?", sort of attitude, but other times there's been no problem. I think it depends on who is on that day.

The pub is a little dark, although I like it well enough, it has a certain old world oak beam type charm. The beer has been pretty good every time.

For more consistency with the food and exemplary service try the Bell in Delph, this bunch could learn a lot from them.
