This pub if you can call it that is now called The Three Crowns. On entering you are greeted by an older chap who presumes you are eating, you are then sat in an area facing the bar and a young lady takes your order. A few minutes 'after you are guided to your seat. Well for me this place couldn't be my local as it doesn't have that feel of a pub more a restaurant, by the way we was going to try the good which was good but not mind blowing. The real ale on offer was from greenfield brewery which was on form. Thelittleman - 31 Mar 2016 13:03 |
Booked a table and the pub booked us in on the wrong day!!! 'Squeezed' us in, then less than two hours later when we hadn't finished our meal told us they wanted the table back in 5 mins!!! Good service, I think not! When challenged the Landlord was very unsympathetic and said we could pay him 15 a head to keep the table all night?! I think we'd spent more than enough if this was his attitude! Apparently all bookings made before 8pm only have a table for 2hrs- and are you told this when you book a table? Well we certainly weren't. Spoiled the celebration of my sister's birthday and engagement, will not be recommending or returning. Although you do seem to get reasonable treatment if you're a regular, but as to new business- don't seem to give a stuff. Will be booking at the Roebuck next time. pinksilverstar - 26 Mar 2011 21:56 |
We stopped off here during our Lands End to John O' Groats cycle ride. On the outside it doesn't look great (the white double glazing), but given it was raining and we were tired and hungry we went it. What a surprise. Inside it was warm, intimate, and friendly. The food was great, properly cooked (none of that Weatherspoons generic microwaved stuff). The service was good too. We didn't try and of the ales though (due to cycling) but throughout our tour of the country it was one of the best of the trip. bealer - 31 Oct 2010 20:09 |
We live close by and go there occassionally. I've always been a bit ambivalent. The welcome is patchy to say the least. Although the fillet steak is wonderful. But I won't be going there for it anymore. Being asked to leave the table after an hour (yes we had booked) without even an apology is too much. Fail. rags123 - 13 Mar 2010 19:16 |
My partner and I with a couple of friends, visited between Xmas & New Year 2009. We found the pub ideally situated outside of the main trawling areas so you had to decide that you really wanted to go there. It was the epitome of the country rural pub/restaurant. In a village with all the interior trimmings of old beams, low ceilings, open fires, slightly rustic and pleasantly lit. A warm welcome and a warm room. Good beers and real ales on for the quaffers with lagers, wines and spirits aplenty. Commercial pushyness did not seem to be in evidence but then neither did sheer profesionalism. Sometimes one has to pay a slight penalty for youth and inexperience particularly the inability to hold a thought or idea for more than 30 seconds. However that was just an inconvenience not a tragedy. A table was found with a window view on a spectacular winter scene, spoiled only by the car park in front of it. There was certainly no rush that night and I suspect the holiday period and wintery weather was playing havoc with staffing requirements. Undetered we ordered our food which, whilst slow in appearing, favoured the appetites of us dinners. The food was well cooked and presented but I suspect that freezers and microwaves perform too big a part in the pubs fare. Its a well known trap too big a menu cant support fresh food so freezers and microwaves plug the gap. To be fair the prices charged are perfectly reasonable for the standard of presentation and the drinks are similarly reasonable. We would go again and we would enjoy what was put before us to be sure, there will be no expectation of Michelin standards but its honest to goodness British gastro pub standard. Knocks the likes of Brewers Fare and Carvery into the long grass, where it belongs. tonyowe - 4 Jan 2010 11:37 |
