Plume Of Feathers, Loughton

A fairly sterile pub that serves a wide range of decent food and reasonably priced beer. Clean and tidy and comfortable, but no real atmosphere. A nice place to eat or have a couple of drinks with your parents but you wouldn't want to spend the night there.

Sir Winston Churchill, Loughton

A bit of a dive until a few years ago, but in recent years it has smartened itself up a lot. The main bar area is still rather dated and tatty and some of the clientele are still a bit rough around the edges, but the staff are friendly and the new restaraunt is actually rather nice and very good value for money, especially the carvery.

And, unlike most pubs in the area, it still retains its essential 'pubiness' and isn't trying to be something it's not.
