Spent the week staying nearby so had the opportunity of visiting a few nights. Got to say I quite like the place, ale was decent enough, food was good - prices were high, I put this down to a Buckinghamshire thing. Quiz night was a good laugh, although the 'quiz master' was a bit arrogant. Staff are friendly and attentive, so overall I would say a decent pub.

Proud to have such a pub in my city. Would urge anyone to visit just to marvel at the architecture - did you know the same guy who designed the interior the Titanic designed the interior of the Phil?
Can get busy, especially of an evening as it is a popular meeting place and especially when a show is on over the road. My advice is to visit on a Saturday afternoon when you can have a good look at the surroundings whilst having a pint.
People have said the ale can be hit and miss, to be fair I have found it more hit than miss.

The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel
Being the sad old gits that we are (a group of 30 and 40 somethings), caught the train down from Liverpool for one of our historic pub tours.
The Beggar was the first stop simply because of the Krays background. Place was deserted when we arrived with only a chap painting up a ladder, we did get served by a dour barman and ended up sitting by the open fire drinking our overpriced beers looking for the spot where Cornell got it.
Dull and hardly worth the visit, maybe they are trading on past exploits?
