I wish I could give this pub more, but it is a trueism that you cannot be all things to all men. It has always been a local pub for the village, Harley not being the tourist venue of its neighbouring Wentworth. It still has a pool table, dartboard, football team, barfly regulars and the rest; but now the food... I have only eaten Sunday lunch here, but what a Sunday lunch! Proper roast potatoes (roasted in the oven in meat juices, not deep fried in monkey-spunk), choice of five vegetables including Chantilly carrots, stuffing, yorkshires....all lovely and great service from mine-host, Bob. Bob is a very clean and through man, and it shows. The only downside to all this is trying to fit a carvery, pool table etc etc into a space as big as my front room (and I don't exactly live in Castle Howard). My sis also thinks the food is a bit above itself for the area, but we shall see.

my other half insists on driving half way round London to eat the Sunday Roasts here. Unbeaten so far.

The George and Dragon, Wentworth
Went today (Monday) and ordered a sanwich and a salad at 13.00. An hour later and the food arrived, and this hour-long wait has been the norm on my previous 2 visits which took place in March and summer last year. This place is as busy as it is solely due to its location in a tourist hot-spot - would have been closed down long ago if it was elsewhere. (and FYI the Wentworth beer is brewed in Elsecar)
