Broughton Hotel, Broughton

Went on a Sunday lunch time following a recommendation. I had no clue why this place was recommended to us.

The restaurant was packed, many chavvy families had kids who were left to scream or run around. The air stank of greasy fast-food.

We found making a choice difficult, eventually going for the Tuna which arrived like overcooked rubber with hard veg.

Finally we found out that the recommender meant another place and had got the names confused.

The Chase Inn, Waltham Chase

Gave this place a couple of tries for the first time in a few years. We were pretty disappointed, on both occasions.

At the weekend, the food wasn't that special, was overpriced, and service was slow.

I tried the "Pint and a staek" offer a couple of weeks later. Steak was tough and overcooked.

Beer is fine, but it will be a few more years before I go back.

The Roebuck Inn, Wickham

Not much to say. Food was adequate, really nothing special. We have eaten far better for the same cost and less, and equally adequate for the same cost.

The place is a little quirky with its "this is not a pub" attitude, and them and us / preference for regulars.

Would we recommend it to the point of saying "you must try it"? Answer is no. Assuming average is 5 out of 10 we give this 4.
