We were staying at the local Caravan Club and were a bit confused on reading ken bishop's latest comment. The comments book on local restaurants back at the park had nothing but glowing comments on The Roebuck and then we noticed his remarks on here and very nearly didn't bother to go along. I am so pleased we ignored his remarks. The Roebuck was all the other 17 people said it was - A warm and friendly welcome., amazing food, (try the fillet steak, it's out of this world) and very friendly and attentive service. Yes, the drinks aren't dirt cheap, but I don't think they were at all excessive. We paid 4.95 for a large (and I mean very large) glass of Merlot and 3.45 (not 3.95) for a pint of Strongbow. We travel a lot and I think the last reviewer forgets that prices in Somerset are always going to be cheaper than prices in Hampshire. It's a fact! Give The Roebuck a try. We're very pleased that we did and will be returning when we come back next month. boswerthsteve - 19 Aug 2012 18:49 |
I walked through the woods from the Caravan Club site looking forward to a pint. I have previously walked to Wickham Square via the old railway line, which takes about 45 mins. This walk was on a hot day and only took 25 mins. There was no real ale, the only drink resembling a beer was a gassed tiddly tap London Pride. NO THANK YOU, so I settled for a pint of Strongbow. I was charged 3.95, yes 3.95 for this mediocre cider. Needless to say I only had the one and left. My impression was an untidy place in need of a good spring clean with greedy ownership. I paid only 3.10 for a superior cider (Thatchers Gold) in a country pub in Somerset a few days before. I will walk the extra distance to the Square on my next visit to the area. kenbishop - 15 Aug 2012 14:24 |
Went for a roast dinner this Sunday lovely meat and veg. The best bit was they do lots of special offers so check local papers. We did and got BOGOF. Two very generous roasts for 8.95. Can't ask for more than that. Very friendly waitress's. Good value shows because it was busy. Don't understand previous comments nearly put us off glad we went and will return. Would recommend 8/10. Following a strong recommendation 4 of us went here for lunch today. We received a warm welcome, courteous and efficient service, and were served the most wonderful meal. We all had different main courses and were each delighted with the ingredients, cooking, and generous portions - the same must be said for the desserts. We highly recommend the Roebuck Inn, and are greatly looking forward to our next meal there. happyhorndeaner - 7 Jun 2012 17:42 |
