The pub has recently has new management who have tried to possibly put their own stamp on the place and it simply hasn't worked. The pub was fine before but has now been painted in cold colours with a lot lot of pictures of local areas taken from the walls which makes the pub look a bit bare. The bar has been redone with a minimalist look but it simply just looks cold to me. It would be fitting in a city centre bar, but not in a rural pub. We booked to have food in the restaurant where all of the usually friendly female waiting staff have now been replaced by men who are either just new to the job or just don't care. We had to repeatedly ask for service and didn't even get asked if we wanted desert/coffees so just left. The same chef is there and the food is still good, but the whole atmosphere in the place has changed for the worse. I've been going to the pub for 15 years and I'm pretty sure it'll be heading for the "steel window treatment" soon if you know what I mean and it will be a real shame. I'll keep going to see if it improves and post back.

The Three Stags Heads, Wardlow Mires
Went there last night and the pub is just as good as ever. The place has a had a bit of a sprucing, i.e. the pub has had a lick of paint, which was quite lon overdue to be honest. Such an odd variety of people there but always very friendly punters in there. Had some local game to eat (rabbit) which was cooked in a basic manner, ie not covered in seasoning, but really good grub none the less. If you want to go to pub and be taken back 60 years then come here.

The Swan Inn, Ulverston
Fantastic pub which when I went had 12, yes 12! cask ales available. The Landlord was very welcoming and knew and awful lot about ales and the location of each one and why they had been picked for his pub. He also invited us to go down to the cellar to have a look at his set-up and you could tell he was very proud to show it off. I wish more publicans took as much pride in their work as this man obviously did. Great Atmosphere later in the night when locals arrived and very welcoming. Now found out the Pub won CAMRA's best pub in Cumbria award since I was there and deservedly so!
