The Falcon, Clapham Junction

I was in the same pub with almost exacty the same problem as the last poster - except for the small bloke (mine was tall!). But, do check your change at The Falcon; the fact that its beside the busiest railway station in the UK does provide opportunities and, boy, do they argue when rumbelled!!

25 Sep 2011 20:48

The City Barge, Chiswick

nuff - a THIRD similar comment is even more boring than the original....

7 Sep 2011 11:09

Crown Inn, Westcott

Locals are already calling the new Wetherspoon - 'The WW' (Westcott Wetherspoon). However, I am informed that a possible name is The Ingrid Bergman as this fine actress actually stayed at The Crown whilst attending a party at the nearby home of her aforementioned friend, Leslie Howard. In any case, it will be an improvement on the poorly run place of recent years.

Crown Inn, Westcott

The idiot - beer expert - with the lazy sons (Army!) was eventually thrown out after a lot of effort by us in the village. Best news for years....now the future!!

2 Sep 2011 21:37

The Prince Of Wales, Westcott

GREAT news. The Crown across the road is changing as well......

Westcott moves on....at last.

The Sun, Redhill

yes this type of survey is a complete waste of time - a good example of the poor management in this pub. saw a couple of blokes (those limited to 2/3 pints a day!) having some fun completing a few forms the other day. to leave it to random is idiotic. as said already, surveys/questionaires must be targetted at a real cross section of customers to make them relevant and asking for staff names is just not on...

30 Jul 2011 22:57

The Home Cottage, Redhill

TWG attempts to rate a pub before its even open or trading. This premature effort is pure folly and akin to servicing a car without opening the bonnet.

Beer, food and service quality - as well as ambience etc. - have to be ignored together with the many other important features which make up a British pub.

7 Jul 2011 09:53

The Abbot, Redhill

agree with beerlager. but the dog & duck regulars now drink in the abbot (known locally as 'the stabbit'). maybe they might stay there after the D&G reopens!?

5 Jul 2011 13:04

The Priory, Reigate

Closed again last night. Still no opening hours shown - probably because they don't know what they are and don't want to be accused of not keeping to them!

27 Jun 2011 11:33

The Priory, Reigate

Closed on Sundays and not showing Sky sports anymore. Good music at weekends.

8 May 2011 09:30

The Dolphin, Betchworth

'BEING SEMI RETIRED AT 38 AINT THAT BAD' - says charlie. I suppose its better than learning to spell or punctuate. What drivel at 2am? Not only can these louts not speak English (except the gutter version), but they can't write it either. Charlie now prefers to spend his afternoons in the Dolphin with the Irishman and his semi-retired mates, sending many of us to the well run/managed Red Lion.

The 'JUGDES' that charlie talks of - is this a type of Betchworth antelope?

17 Sep 2010 11:35

The Old Chestnut, Earlswood

Closed.

10 Sep 2010 09:52

The Blue Anchor, Reigate

Fox is entitled to his opinion; in fact, he is quite correct. If Lionel had stayed in the pub - and not do a daily town pub crawl - he would still be in the BA!

6 Sep 2010 10:47

The Admiral, Reigate

This pub has reopened - with an efficient and pleasant Irish lady governor; things seem to be better thatn ever!

2 Sep 2010 07:29

The Royal Oak, Rusper

Yes, wealdman, it would seem so.

And the biker chap is sending out more insulting PM's - beware!

15 Aug 2010 10:15

The Surrey Oaks, Newdigate

Posts about PM's and 'personnal insults' are out of place on a site about pubs and beer; the PM service is there for posters to communicate. Init.

13 Aug 2010 09:12

The Dolphin, Betchworth

Sadly, nothing like it was. The afternoon foulmouthed brigade - mainly from Dorking way - see to that and staffing (there's been a lot) is totally hit and miss. Management - including the current pair - has, by and large, been inept. The Dolphin is a pub living on its reputation and location; Youngs are obviously indifferent. A vast number of old regulars now can be seen in the Red Lion, Royal Oak and Seven Stars - all infinitely better in price and quality.

11 Aug 2010 09:19

The Nutley Hall, Reigate

Sadly, the brewery/freeholder was granted planning permission last week for the conversion of this pub into three flats - despite significant local objection.

The only conditions relate to vehicular access - with a three year term for the development and the preservation of the cave underneath the pub.

A fine local boozer and well managed. Is this the end?

On Nutley Lane also, The Admiral recently closed....

10 Aug 2010 10:40

The Surrey Oaks, Newdigate

The troops have arrived to defend some acurate and slightly negative comments by deservebetter and others! Some seem to think that this place is unique, with high standards.

Sevice is slow, beer quality good - and Ken and the missus have had very successful personality bypasses. Food is average - but as good as the Leigh pubs .

Its a place devoted to the Camra type chaps who like to say - 'went out to Newdigate on Sunday' - then wait for the 'was the beer good' question'

Not a bad pub overall - just like many others in the area....Red Lion, Seven Stars, Dolphin, Royal Oak etc.etc.

9 Aug 2010 21:49

The Albion, Epsom

'This pub is quality' - 'new era; new toilets'

Rubbish. It has no quality or new toilets. The place remains filthy and frequented by the dregs of Epsom.

Awful. One of the worst in Surrey.

28 Jun 2010 15:18

The Bell, Reigate

Closed on Sundays.

21 Jun 2010 11:27

The Plough, Coldharbour

In one of the most picturesque areas in the South East, this pub is plagued by people who think its OK to just enjoy the view and use the toilets; thank god for Anna who is well described by JohnBonser. The Plough is efficiently run - though perhaps not a typical friendly local; but then, these are also rare in Windsor or on the Brighton seafront.

The beer is excellent, the food is good and the pub doesn't try to be 'all things to all men' - its a welcoming retreat for the weary walker and biker; not so welcoming, perhaps, for the numerous time wasters who often complain about the car-parking (which is normally ample) before they order. An excellent pub under most headings.

1 Jun 2010 14:01

The Red Cross Inn, Reigate

Changing hands again this weekend - as is the nearby Blue Anchor. Unless some money is spent on this c400 year old pub (the roof, for instance), it will suffer severe structural damage whilst continuing to fail.

22 May 2010 14:23

The Eighteenth Amendment, Reigate

The same postcode relates to a real Reigate pub and the '18' factor/amendment is both sinister and significant. 18 represents the first and eight letters in the alphabet, A & H.

Standing for Adolf Hitler, the meaning and clear message is far from historic US liquor legislation.

21 Mar 2010 15:50

The Bulls Head, Reigate

Remains closed. Applications on the way in for all required licenses ....health & safety, fire, beer & wine etc. etc. It will be a long and expensive saga.......reason, crass stupidity.

9 Mar 2010 16:02

The Red Cross Inn, Reigate

Changed hands yet again yesterday...another very mediocre management company.

Before the Summer, there will be another!

9 Mar 2010 15:43

The Dolphin, Betchworth

burton has yet to see 'the management getting drunk'

you did'nt go to specsavers then?

6 Mar 2010 23:23

The Sydney Arms, Chelsea

Not true melberry. We do - every week in the Builders; money talks, but then you are only a 'working class professional'. Your words!

6 Mar 2010 23:11

The Sydney Arms, Chelsea

What I wonder is the last post about? A quick check shows similar irrelevancies from the same poster.

5 Mar 2010 21:46

The Bulls Head, Reigate

Going through a bad patch after losing manager. Used to watch football here. They don't seem to show it anymore.

25 Jan 2010 14:01

The Britannia, Guildford

The Pilgrim is correct about 'Britain's oldest brewer.'

Closing a pub for December's peak trading is one thing - but not to put up a notice (to say how long the closure might be for) is idiotic.

We shall not be walking down there again to see if its open; there are many better/busy pubs nearer the centre - and in it.

12 Dec 2009 14:17

The Britannia, Guildford

Closed - as in shut.....

8 Dec 2009 22:04

The Green Man, Putney Heath

Arctral... that's odd, like you. I received that abusive message and the insulting one yesterday. For the record, I don't know any other BITE poster (I only post as wolfdog) and have decided, that as you are obviously a lunatic, to ignore you (I'm probably not the first!). But not my local, the GM - where I shall be as usual on this Friday night.

6 Mar 2009 10:09

The Green Man, Putney Heath

Arctral...who has now started sending out long, rambling and abusive personal messages through this site now accepts he's a 'saddo.' Obviously one with paranoia.

5/6 posters who dare to criticise him or the GM are the same person! This is based on his well known Hercule Poirot techniques - at least he's good for a laugh, before he must return to the Home. The sooner the better !

5 Mar 2009 10:33

The Green Man, Putney Heath

After calling BDMark 'an angry little man', arc now calls him (and his post) 'obviously homophobic (even though BDM stated that he had no issue with that), strangely reactionary, malicious and specious.' All because BDM gave his opinion - an honest and accurate one.

Then arc turns his wrath on wolfdog; he rudely/inarticulately insults me as a contributor - and refers to me as mean-spirited. Arc also seems incapable of understanding, hence his second post.

I'm so glad you don't live in Putney arc - but you seem to know Billericay well. It would better suit you there; find a local that will take you - and try not to put off more local customers as you have from the GM.

Even though arc has said that Cog and daisy should reduce their input, I wonder will they support his extreme/vulgar/unbalanced/foulmouthed rant ?

4 Mar 2009 12:15

The Green Man, Putney Heath

I live in Putney and know the GM to be an average boozer, similar to many in the area. However, it is noteworthy that three posters - in less than a year - have commented very favourably over a dozen times.

These are arc, daisy and Cog; they never have a negative word for this quite mediocre pub - and quickly take to task those who do. BDW was called 'an angry little man' - just for pointing out a few deficiencies ( and a 'wan%#er' by another poster).

Bias reigns in the GM - at least for these posters who may even have a second agenda, so far are their biased views off the mark !? Now that their bias is outed, BITE readers can ignore this obvious contrivance to 'talk up' a pub that is nothing special.

3 Mar 2009 13:02

The Dolphin, Betchworth

The last poster has very accurately described this fast declining former gem. But just substitute the word 'regulars' for 'locals' - for those who have colonised the front table; all else is spot on.

Betchworth is not home to these chaps, they could not afford it ! However, they have been allowed to hasten the decline, together with the extremely poor management, staff and food - covered in many previous posts.

Many of us have moved up to the Red Lion.

23 Feb 2009 11:09

The Ship Inn, Burnham on Crouch

I know the last post was made about 2.5 years ago - but even then The Ship was not overlooking the waters edge; its on the High Street.

Very much a young person's pub that does good pub grub; it gets very busy at weekends, particularly in the summer - because of the nearby River Crouch.
