The Blue Lias Inn is a converted Farmhouse by the side of the Grand Union Canal. I have visited it twice in the past two weeks, firstly on my narrow boat [not a barge] and secondly in my car to treat my old mum to lunch. Its a nice clean pub in lovely surroundings with plenty of seating in and out. It has a reasonably priced pub menu and the food was served hot, freshly cooked and within a short while of ordering. The only down-side was only one member of staff serving drinks on both occasions so queuing was a pain and sometimes quite lengthy as food orders were taken by the same person. Worth a visit in case the ghost of the murdered farm hand appears chased by the one legged farmer.. . . . . . . . . 8/10 and will go again.

Just the same as always. Good hot meals pub grub style, nothing fancy with a superb free salad bar, fair prices and good service. Sometimes when its crowded you may have to wait a few minutes but otherwise no probs. As mentioned before yes the staff are young but I have always found them extremely polite and eager to please. Whoever trains them is still on the ball.

Met up with friends at this pub for lunch last week. They sat outside on the lovely patio in the sun watching the narrow boats passing whilst I got the first round of 2 x wines and 2 x pints in and I got just over a pound in change out of 20.00 !! Then we ordered our meal. I remember when a Fleur Da Lys pie was 1/6d and really was something to shout about but sadly not now. Its small it has little or no filling and it sits in the middle of a large oval plate between a few sad vegetables and a small pile of chips and costs 9.95. We had to ask for gravy for something to taste as the food was so bland. There were not many punters at the pub this day and although it looked quite clean and tidy and the service was good the pie meal was sub-standard and both food and drinks very expensive. Cant afford to go there again . . . .

Hey spankingwitch7 must have had such a good time she registered herself (witches are usually female) on this site just to sing the new landlords praise!!! Good for her, although having only just moved into the area she'd already heard what she describes as disgraceful things about the landlord!!! So it would seem things are now OK at the Cider House, the staff are both welcoming and polite, the place is fantastic apart from the new Landlord being a Geordie - Strange the witch decided to joke about this? But still I don't mind Geordie's so to be fair to the new landlord I'll give the pub another visit if I'm passing. Maybe he or a member of his newly trained polite and welcoming staff will recognise me in my cloak waiting to be served . . . . . .

Now called the Boat House. I have visited on several occasions and in good weather sat out on the balcony overlooking the Grand Union Canal watching the passing narrow boats and had a meal. Food is good solid pub grub with an extensive menu, specials board and at present serving 2 for 1 meals. You pay for the most expensive main dish only. Rump steak and pepper sauce a good bet. Friendly staff although at times not enough on duty to cope with customers.
This pub is a MUST for narrow boaters and Gongoozlers alike and very well recommended. I forgot to mention the kids playground outside and wide open car park . . . . . ..

Never again!! The service was disjointed and for the duration of our meal we were served by at least five different members of staff, none of whom seemed older than school age. The food was of a poor quality and to cap it all we were followed from the pub and accused of NOT paying our bill.

Used to be a great pub in the good old days before it was rebuilt. The landlord used to put roast potatoes on the bar on Sunday dinner-time and he or his wife were always available to pull your pint. The last time I went in, it was a bugger to find a member of staff vaguely interested in serving me and the restaurant only had scalding hot micro-wave meals on offer. Great views of the narrowboats passing the window though . . . . . . . . . ..
Needs anoth revamp.

You used to get 2 x succulent rump steaks, all the trimmings, 2 x drinks and tip the waiter for under 20.00p some years back in the days of the Grab a Granny and Bikers nights. How many changes has it had since?

I have never had problems or been disapointed here. Food is cheap, hot and although the menu is not extensive the superb free salad bar makes up for it. Yes the staff are young but I have always found them extremely polite and eager to please. Whoever trains them is on the ball. This is not a drinkers pub but a place to meet family or friends for a meal. 9/10 for me.

Usual Toby Inn Carvery. Warm food spoiled by poor cuts of meat sliced so thinly they have no taste. Lamb, pork, beef whatever it all falls apart trying to get it on your fork. A carvery for people with no appetite. Staff fine except the miserable chef carving the meat, pub clean and Bass tasty . .

I stopped using this pub last year when the Landlord said he really did not give a toss for disabled people and refused to repaint the two disabled parking spots at the front of the pub. I drove by the other day and they are just the same!! The yellow paintwork was hardly recognisable and although I was not close enough to see I would like to bet neither of the vehicles parked in these spots was showing a blue' disabled badge. Shame really - as the beer was always nice . . . . . Rate pub 7/10
The Landlord of then 0/10

Visited this pub several times lately for the Sunday carvery. Great value, great food and carved and served up by nice people. Inside the pub the staff behind the bar with the exception of one lady are sullen, lazy and rude. If your not a regular known by them you'll stand a long time waiting to be served. Its a shame really because this pub has a prime location next to the canal. Carvery 10/10. Bar service 4/10.

The Sun Trevor, Llangollen
Sometime in September 2009 we moored our leaky hired narrow boat opposite this pub on the Llangollen canal in torrential rain with five on board [ 3 were pensioners ]. After trudging over a bridge the manager refused to serve us food as he said he was expecting a coach party. Having read the other reviews its probably a good job we did not drink there and we ate on board. Welsh weather followed by Welsh hospitality.
