The Ribchester Arms, Ribchester

Rather posh boozer; the big draw of this pub is food I believe. Pint of Pendle Witches' Brew was getting on for 2.60 IIRC. Reasonable beer but not a pub I'd return to.

Eric Bartholomew, Morecambe

Not a bad pub. A few cask ales were on - not brilliant but cheap and cheerful and did the job necessary at 1.75 a pint. I was in on an afternoon so it seemed relatively quiet; don't know what it gets like when it's a bit livelier!

The Bushells Arms, Preston

This is a restaurant rather than a pub now.

The Black Horse Hotel, Preston

Great town centre pub with very traditional, old-world atmosphere with its own rooms and none of this 'open plan' nonsense. Fine beer too. That Old Tom sure is strong though!

The Swan With Two Necks, Pendleton

Niceish pub with plenty of charm. The beer was fairly decent too of a summer afternoon. One to return to.

The Gilnow Arms, Bolton

Went in here a few months ago on a Saturday night. Rough pub with very dodgy looking clientele. Cheap lager abounds and no real ale. A dump. The other pub just up the road was better.

The Old Oak, Longridge

Unfortunately in the months following my review the state of this pub has deteriorated. Intrusively loud music now permeates the pub, the sullen barstaff don't seem to care whether you're having a good time or not (respect for customers seems to have gone out the window apart from as a means to milk a cash cow) and the beer has taken a turn for the worse now the main market for trade seems to be the local Kronenbourg-swilling morons in the back room. Avoid.

The Stags Head, Goosnargh

I found this to be a very average pub. The beer was mediocre (a couple of real ales but the dark ale I had didn't taste at its best) with dull food cooked by 16-year-old kids. Not a place I think I'd return to in a hurry.

The Royal Hotel, Great Harwood

One of the best pubs I've been to in a long time. This pub has its own microbrewery with a wide selection of ales of all kinds, including several guests. When I visited it was a Friday afternoon and rather quiet yet the atmosphere was really friendly and down to earth, with the barmaid offering free samples to try. The beer here is seriously good quality and great value for the price. The only possible bad point I could think of is that the pub looks slightly tatty from the outside but the atmosphere inside more than makes up for it. Definitely a pub to return to.

Duke William, Longridge

Fairly recently taken over and done up by a prominent local businessman. Food here is simply excellent (I don't know anyone who has ever had a bad meal there) and the beer isn't bad and is improving especially as they move to bring in more handpumps (including a constant mild). Good pub.

The Angry Friar, Gibraltar

Very much a touristy pub. The food is rather unexceptional but not too badly priced. This being Gibraltar there was absolutely no cask ale on whatsoever - they had San Miguel, Tennents and Heineken on keg. A pint of lager was 2.10.

The outdoor service staff were very helpful to us but that may have been because we were from the UK and were paying in sterling; the Spanish group on the table next to us were told to wait while we were served first. They just got their meal when we finished ours and they came at the same time.

Not the sort of place I would rush back to but it does its job.

The Crown, Didsbury

Reasonable pint but only seemed to have one cask ale on when I went. The loud music did grate a little but wasn't as loud as some other pubs on Wilmslow Road. Was overflowing with people but most pubs on St. Patrick's Day.

Cock and Bottle, Skipton

A fairly small pub very close to Skipton's town centre. They had three real ales on cask. The beer was mediocre and a little on the expensive side. It was crowded and actually fairly noisy when I went. Not bad for a quick pint but I wouldn't fancy spending hours in there.

The White Bull Inn, Great Eccleston

Has two, possibly three real ales on which were Dick Turpin and Timothy Taylor's Landlord when I went about two months back. Both were on very good form, the Dick Turpin especially. Barman was an helpful and honest sort of bloke. Very nice pub and good, positive atmosphere.

The Old Oak, Longridge

My local pub. Theakston's are the main ales (Best Bitter and Mild usually) with two guest beers on. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff and landlady make you feel very welcome. The food is good quality and reasonably priced too. Recommended.

The Calf's Head, Worston

Simple, reasonably priced traditional food in a nice setting with a few cask ales. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. Recommended.

The Three Fishes, Mitton

The ale at the bar was very warm (Lancaster Bomber and one other ale on when I went late last year) - they don't seem to keep their beer well. The food was fairly reasonable but very overpriced for what you actually got and they ask to see your card before you order which didn't go down well. The place had a kind of pretentious air to it and the constant plugging of local produce seemed false. Best avoided.
