The Jack and Jill Inn, Clayton

Is in need of decorating, the ceiling is a lovely shade of nicotine and all the furniture has seen much better days. The food is good, steak is excellent if a bit pricey. Lots of real ales and the landlord knows his cellar. Lovely views from garden but on a busy main road so noisy

The Royal Oak, Poynings

Agree with many of the posters here, the food is a bit hit and miss and yet mysteriously it is always packed! Is overpriced and a bit 'nouveau cuisine', has been non smoking for a while but unfortunately isnt non smelly, every time I have been there it is full of stinky muddy dogs, dribbling around where people are trying to eat

The Lamb, Piltdown

Cat sat on table trying to catch the goldfish, not terribly hygenic, good for kids, was empty midweek lunchtime though can imagine a busy sunday luch would be like a scrum!

The Griffin Inn, Fletching

Overpriced and pretentious although the food was good. Fantastiv views from garden but very cramped indoors

The Peacock Inn, Piltdown

Good plain food, reasonable prices. Had to cross a road from car park which was a bit 'hairy' to say the least

The Chequers Inn, Maresfield

Have stayed here and really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean comfortable and cheaper than a travelodge especially considering the enormous breakfast offered. The cask beers were well kept, Harveys Best and guest beers. Cosy bars, food reasonably priced with large portions. Garden spacious and well kept, obviously not aimed at small children, no play equipment etc, but to me that was a plus
