The Reckless Engineer, Bristol
Good beer & full of (ageing) hells angels when I was in. Found myself singing along with the background music.Much better boozer than first impressions would suggest.

The last 3 times I've been in The Codrington Codger has been excellent. If you're in Central Bristol you could do far worse than head here and unwind with pint in a big leather chair!

I for one visit this pub because it's one of the few central Bristol pubs where you can get a really good pint of real ale (usually the guest beer though), in a good atmosphere. Not sure I want to discuss their (lack of) interpersonal skills with the current landlords though!

After reading the reviews below, I wasn't expecting much but I have to say, the food was good (although a bit pricey), service was excellent and the beer was pretty good as well. In my relatively short stay in Rye this was the best pub I came across, but then, it doesn't seem to have much to beat!

The beer was ok & the rooms are a bit cavernous, but who cares, just go to marvel at the interiors, as this must be the best Victorian Pub left intact anywhere in UK.

It's all been said before & it's all true. When I visted, all four beers were on form, even Courage Best. Pies were good too, apparently brought all the way from Birmingham for our delectation?

The Chequers Inn, Woolmer Green
Good beer & food, helpful staff, a roaring fire & a pleasant landlady. What more could you need on a cold February evening ?
