Black Horse, Nuthurst

Very nice small country pub, out of the way with a large pleasant garden and good sized car park. I always visit this Pub once or twice on my very infrequent visits to the UK. Traditional old Sussex pub with good food if you want it, the beers are well kept. Jazz in the garden on sunny Sundays. A few years ago this pub was very well frequented, and packed on Sunday lunch, but not so now, on my last visit (a sunny weekday lunch time), I only counted a dozen or so customers in the two hours I was there. But its the same as a lot of the pubs in the UK now, quite a few are struggling for business or closing.

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

This is the first place I make for when I visit Brighton. It used to be my local many years ago when I lived there. Its the only pub that I don't really mind about the the food being served, if you know what I mean. Top Pub, Brighton's best, bar none. If Fullers don't want it, I'll have it like a shot.

White Hart, Henfield

I use to drink here a lot when the two gay guys ran it. They kept the place absolutely spotless, and it was possibly the best Pub in the village along with the Gardeners when Terry Kirby had it.
On a recent visit last year after a few years away from the Village, I was quite surprised at the change in the place. Certainly a lot more grubby and the local clientele had also moved on by the looks of things.

The Bull Inn, Mockbridge

I used to live not a stones throw away from this Pub but very rarely went in. It was always a gloomy place complete with gloomy people. The only good thing about it was a pint out of the rain while waiting for the Fish and Chip van that turned up every Thursday in the lay-by just over the bridge, don't know whether it still does.

"I have always found this pub impeccable. Did Simmel not notice the great wine list and the huge variety of local cheeses available? It's always so comfortable and, frankly, I don't go to a sleepy Devon village in the middle of nowhere for fast food. I have never had a bad meal there and I think it's just one of those pubs which are special. We always get lost before we finally arrive - but that's Devon lanes for you. It's worth the effort."

I didn't go there for fast food, I was there as a paying guest for four days. And if you want wine and cheese for breakfast, Fine, but at eight thirty in the morning, there would be Nobody Inn to serve it.

Who said anything about having to wait for food, I don't see anything about that in any of the reviews????? Plus I wasn't carping, I was making general remarks (some good some bad) based on my four day stay there.
However, now you come to mention it, for three days out of the four, we did have to wait Half to three quarters of an hour for breakfast even though we had ordered it for a specific time. Also there were only four other guests there, so it wasn't crowded by any means.

The Evening Star, Brighton

The only way I can rate this pub, is by the reception I got from a member of the staff.
I turned up there with a couple of friends from Austria in June this year. It was just gone 12 lunchtime, and as I poked my head through the door I was immediately confronted by a surly bloke with a brush who told me in no uncertain terms "We're not open yet and won't be for another hour or so".
With that I left and headed down to the excellent "Basket Makers" for a more friendly welcome and a good pint.
By the way, even though the guy had just swept out all the dog ends, fag packets and other rubbish onto the street outside, it still looked a bit filthy inside.

The Crumplehorn Inn, Polperro

Stayed here for a few days recently, excellent accommodation my flat (No 7) was enormous and very clean, good parking for guests, beer was well up to standard although I'm no expert, the bar area was quite small and concentrated more on food, but there is a very large garden area. Food portions were big to say the least, and the breakfast superb.
Just a short walk from the village and harbor, but on the right side of town Alan and Sonja although very busy could not have been more pleasant and helpful.
If your looking for a great place to stay in Cornwall the this is it.
By the way, If you are a mobile phone freak make sure you have Orange nothing else will work......

I had the misfortune of staying there for a few days recently, there is nothing wrong with the pub itself, its old with character and serves good beer, but thats as far as it goes.
Its in the most inaccessible place you could wish for, but thats no fault of the pub, the bar service was slow as the bar staff (only one or at the most two) were busy taking food orders as well as serving drinks, but the thing I was most put out about is that having driven 250 miles to get there arriving at just after 2pm, that I as a resident, could not get a drink after time (2.30 pm) because they said they were too busy in the afternoon.
The room was nothing to write home about, very small and dark with a plastic shower cabinet and toilet, certainly not worth the top price of 75 pounds a night for B+B
As for the food, the pastry on my beef and Guinness pie was under done and the new potatoes were only half cooked. After that I stuck with the plowman's.
The other thing that struck me was, that there didnt seem to be any regulars, different faces every night.
Not being able to get out to my car in the car park until someone arrived at about eight O'Clock in the morning to unlock the door and let me out of the pub, also seemed rather odd
Sorry but not my kind of pub or B and B.

The Anchor Bleu, Bosham

I visited this pub last year for the third or forth time in Six years. It used to be OK, but on my last visit, it has really gone down hill.
I don't know if they have change the management, but if so they need to change it again, for the better.
The food was abysmal, and the miserable bar staff couldn't give a toss.
Even though the tide was out and the weather was lovely (sunny and warm), when I went to open the door to the patio, I was given short shrift from the landlady and ordered to close it again, because it was as she said too windy.
What a shame this could be a gold mine in the right hands.

The Wheatsheaf, Woodmancote

Used to be a reasonably good locals pub, until they changed it into a sudo posh Pub/Restaurant, with prices to match but food that didnt.
There are better close by.

The Druids Head, Brighton

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

I have been going to this Pub on and off now for over twenty five years, in the days when your shoes used to stick to the beer soaked carpet. It was a great pub then and still is, I always visit when I'm in Brighton. Nice to see they scraped up the carpet and cleaned the floor boards.

Red Lyon, Slinfold

Nice village local, with very large garden and car park at rear, very good food, but can get quite busy. Very friendly staff, Good rooms B+B quite reasonable price for this area.

The Royal Oak, Wineham

Wonderful old traditional no frills Pub, small inside but with huge garden for the summer. Sunday lunch times can be very busy, good beer straight from the cask, mind your head on the very low beams.
