decent, bit expensive/poncey menu/drinks.
however it is suspicous that all the glowing reviews are from people who haven't rated any other pubs. i would guess they have a financial interest in the pub's success.

i stick by my comment below
however it does have a good irish trad session on a sunday night, and the pub does have a certain charm. Not for everyone though.

gay/mixed bar - though not blatantly so, small, not bad, central, can't really fault it but nothing too special - just a regular bar, not really a typical "soho bar"

good, v small, wide variety of cocktails, pretty wide bottled beer selection, young/european/good-attitude crowd. as covent garden are goes you wont find much better.

bar is ok, quiet, chilled out atmosphere, decent music, big windows, easy to get a seat, nice place for an hour or two. not bustling but as a pre-club hangout its good.
the toilets however are a disgrace.

The Brixton Telegraph, Brixton
great music (electro and techno night i was there). twentyish crowd, decent decor/layout. can't understand why it's currently rated so low...

not a bad local pub. big screens for sport. nothing special about it, attracts a bit of a eng-er-land crowd for the football. if you just want a local this could be your cup of tea. for a bit of character head to the pubs in kennington, for a lively time head to clapham/camberwell, for food and a different experience go to the portugese tapas bars on lambeth road.

agree with seanboots - very "local" irish crowd who are a bit drunk and miserable. genuine place, but a bit depressing unfortunately. it's not a bad pub of itself, and it shows irish sport, but wouldn't recommend it unless you know the regularss.

bands play out the back; stage/venue is small but atmosphere was good the 1 time i was there.
out the front it's a regular bar, not great beer/layout, but for some reason it works well; the clientele seem pretty ok, and it opens late.
i could see this being a pretty good place to go for a late beer/see a band during the week.

an experience indeed. interior is nice enough but nothing special. but you really come here for the atmosphere. oddball friendly ancient bar staff. friendly locals. good range of beers, late licence and no fakery. well worth a visit.

The Prince of Wales, Kennington
pleasant enough pub on lovely quiet square. nice place for a chat on a summer's evening. little bit pricey. populated by slightly posh thirtysomethings, but they're not at all pretentious, unlike in the fentiman arms not far away.

looks a bit dodgy. typical sarf london pub, a bit out of place in kennington/lambeth north.
6 May 2006 22:17
still totally empty everytime i walk past. looks totally bland inside. seems to be aimed at the gay crowd; good luck to the management but i wonder how long until they have to close down/renovate.

The Pilgrim Bar & Kitchen, Kennington
has been done up recently, nice wood decor inside. just popped in for a look on my way to tesco; looks ok, definitely worth another look.

nice "ordinary" pub in soho, relaxed atmosphere, dark wood interior

food good (but not brilliant), but atmosphere is good - feels like you've stepped into portugal - good place to relax for an hour or two & watch the football, have a coffee, whatever

bit crowded and full of suits, lively young crowd, very modern look. not really my scene but good place.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street
genuine old pub. bit dead because of the area that it's in, but worth a look for the old feel anyway. not quite as many "suits" as other pubs in the area (but still a lot!)
22 Jan 2006 22:23
good music (though variable!), opens late with no cover charge, not-too-poncey crowd as clapham goes. nice unusual feel being under railway arches too.
22 Jan 2006 22:19
friendly pub run by genuine Irish family. nice local crowd. pub is a little bit dirty and you get the odd pisshead there, but if you get chatting to the regulars you should enjoy it.
22 Jan 2006 22:15
loud and crowded cattle market with dodgy covers bands and tanked-up crowd. still if that's what you're looking for, you'll be happy. On my first and last time here, i did score, but I won't be back of my own choice...

The Porterhouse, Covent Garden
a half-decent covent garden pub, a rarity in itself. nice beer range, bit pricey, lots of drunk tourists/young londoners. if you like/can put up with the crowd it's not bad. it does close early like almost everywhere else in westminster. the original in dublin is much better.
22 Jan 2006 22:09
popped in here one Friday night. about a half dozen people present. it felt very dead, decor a bit dated. can't fault it too much for a quiet pint but don't come here for atmosphere.
22 Jan 2006 22:04
feels a bit overdone. Expensive beer (and not great choice). Nice open fire and beer garden, nicely laid out, but feels a bit pretentious. Food is expensive but have never eaten here so won't comment.
22 Jan 2006 22:01
good choice of beers & spirits, good music selection (very slightly unusual dance music mainly). Staff are a bit laid back, so are the punters, so is the decor :) . Great relaxed atmosphere, my favourite pub by far in the area.

Vauxhall Griffin, Vauxhall
I still haven't had a drink in here and I'm basing my comments from glances in the window as i pass by.
however it looks much busier with a more mixed crowd, it also looks cosier with a few sofas/armchairs. they seem to have taken all the gay paraphernalia (rainbow flags etc) out of the window and are running a few quiz nights etc.
glad to see the change, may even drop in for a drink myself.
