Took the wife there for lunch last Sunday and I must say that I can't agree with some of the previous comments.
The food was excellent, the service fast, and the staff were very polite and attentive.
I'm only a real-ale amateur but the two pints I tried tasted very good and were a reasonable price.
I would fully recommend it.

Everything a lunch-time local should be, friendly staff good cheap food. Ale choice is a bit limited but good quality. Garden out front could do with a make-over, but there's a nicer one out back. Used mainly by regulars from the nearby businesses, so can get busy on the last day of the month, especially if it's a Friday. Haven't a clue what it's like in the evening, I've used it for 16 years but only lunchtimes.

The Standard Bearer, Stevenage
There's a great open staircase which is perfect for watching the local talent.

Oak Tavern, Welwyn Garden City
Great 'locals' pub. It has cleaned up its act tremendously over the last few years. Landlord and staff very friendly, and a reasonable selection of beers and lagers. Can get loud, a bit too early on a Friday night.

The Fairway Tavern, Welwyn Garden City
Used to owned by the Council as part of the municipal golf course complex, now privately owned. Great view of the Hertforshire countryside. Sunday lunches excellent value. Beer and lager superb. Staff friendy. Sky Sports. Weekly jazz nights in the function room.

The Attimore Hall, Welwyn Garden City
The Attie has gone through quite a lot of changes since it opened (I was there that night). Reasonable selection of beers and lagers and the staff are generally OK.
Now I'm a family man I find it a shame they ban kids from the garden, even on a sunny Sunday lunchtime.

The John Bunyan, Coleman Green
Great country pub, serves locally (well, Hertfordshire) produced McMullen ale. The AK Bitter was particularly good.
Lunchtime food looked appetising, although I didn't indulge.
Plenty of outside seating at the front of the pub and in the back garden.
Don't be put off by the winding single track road you have to drive down to get there, it's only about 1/2 a mile long, and there's plenty of passing places.
