The Hook, Line and Sinker, Twickenham

Sterile atmosphere and indifferent staff. Cannot seem to go in here without there being a problem of some kind - alarm going off, power cut, ovens not working, pumps breaking down, or teenage barstaff who want to charge you 4.80 for a pint of coke from the tap and not bat an eyelid.

Having said all that though, and not really liking this pub, I have to concede that they take the beer very seriously. Had a pint of Fullers Discovery in there three nights ago and it was superb. The Pride has got to be the best in town. If you just want a good pint of beer you can't go far wrong with this place. Not too many chavs on a Saturday night either.

The George, Twickenham

15 years ago this was a great pub. I still remember going in there in about 1990 and having one of the best pints of Flowers I've ever had. Now it is agro central. Bad, indifferent staff, dreadful beer. Great place to wander into on your first day out of Feltham Young Offenders Institute to meet up with your 17-year-old mates and engage in a fresh stabbing. Remember coming back into Twickers 'bout five years ago near closing time and hearing the sound of loads of dogs barking and seeing King Street at a standstill. I heard later that about 30 coppers had taken the expediency of simply arresting everyone in the pub and hearded them round the corner to the police station. There had been a stabbing that night, I heard. Overall a lousy, useless dump full of scum. Go here if the only other option is slitting your wrists.

Now that the mad dog has gone this place may be worth a visit. Have heard good things about it.

The Bear, Twickenham

Dreadful beer and indifferent staff. Typical shite Twickenham pub and a great place to indulge in/witness agro on a Friday or Saturday night.

The Up'n'Under, Twickenham

Hi anonymous, I said all the beers were off. Not sure if you know what beer is - it's that dark stuff that you tend to see blokes drinking in big glasses in pubs that sell the stuff. Dear me, what a sad life you must lead to rate this place as good, this bulk standard plastic pub with young staff (kinda reminds you of a macdonalds doesn't it?). By the way, I can see what you mean when when you say all the staff are 'beautiful' - they certainly are firm and tight, and for a man of my age (30s) - incredibly young looking. The way they lounge around on the wrong side of the bar even when its busy reminds me of some of the teenagers I know, not to mention the vacant look and the general sense of complete innocence and ignorance - and the bad lying. I'm glad you like the food, the portions are certainly big (they must have a massive microwave in the kitchen!). It must be just a coincidence that every time I've been dragged along there by my colleagues (two of us rebelled today as it happens) the food has been mediocre and the service awful. Incidentally, my boss had her xmas meal in there. Bill came to about 140. When she queried it it came to 89.00. Yah - great place. Keep taking the tablets.

First up - some corrections to your mistakes: I didn't all the beers were off - they still had Tetleys on - which is pretty terrible - as I am sure you would know, you being seasoned pub-goers and all. I've been going to this pub, for good or for ill, since it first opened (I work at the council too by the way). It nosedived after the refurbishment and never recovered. Do you remember Alan and Keith - the original guys who used to run it? They were brilliant. They were actually good bar managers. They would have thought it odd (don't you?) to keep the door to the fire exit open every night (during winter) so it is freezing cold (what did you say? - "a little bit cold?" In February!). I understand that you may have had some decent meals in there. There have been a few patches when the food has been genuinely good, but I agree with all the other people who have commented on the truly terrible service. They are spot on. I suggest you try going to another (more decent) pub for a change - just to see what it's like. You might be suprised.

Great for the mad dog which goes beserk when you walk in. Staff seem to think it's cool. Actually it means that you don't go back there.

I had to re-register after a few months absence to deal with this. This is one of the worst pubs in the town. Went in there Friday before last. All the beers were off apart from Tetley's. Staff were useless and unfriendly. One girl behind the bar even when it got quite busy. After an hour all the guiness mysteriously 'went off' - although it mysteriously came back on at about 8. The fire exit door was propped open so it was freezing in there - it's been every time I have had the misfortune of being in there this winter. Food is dreadful. All fairly typical of this dreadful place. *Constantly* bad over the last few months - you can hardly imagine how anyone would like it in there - so I can't really understand where all these mysterious positive reviews are coming from. Bizarre.
