The Goldthorn Pub, Wolverhampton
it`s really sad to see this place go downhill fast, when it was a social club i was a member for nearly 10 years, saturday nights were packed to capacity and sunday night you had a different crowd who were there for the entertainment, i didn`t go in during the week because of my work.
But now after a sucession of managers, it`s now run by an asian father & son who have a different perspective on things , they are doing their best , but why spend money on a place when you can`t get decent people through the door.

Just paid another visit to the `harriers on the 23/24th, the gents toilets have improved and are open to us `merry campers` 24/7. Colin & Julie are working very hard and i wish them all the success in the world. I`m looking forward to forthcoming `Merryfest beer & cider festival on 12/13/14 september with over 30 ales and ciders promised. i`ve made one or two new friends there and the atmosphere seems to have lifted, no disrespect to the previous landlord intended.

new licensee`s colin & julie have now taken over the `harriers from 17/7/2008 , and after sampling their hospitality over the weekend of 18th/19th july, i can say i was pleased with the outcome, Also, they are keeping the campsite going which is good news for me as i live two & a half hours drive away!

My wife and i have just returned from a refreshing weekend break at this fine establishment, using their campsite, so i didn`t have far to stagger after sampling the Crop Circle!! The pub hasn`t been sold yet but the Landlord is considering it.
Long may the campsite remain so i can enjoy this pubs` fine hospitality!!

The Goldthorn Pub, Wolverhampton
this used to be a good place years ago, but, it has got steadily worse since my last post and i have to agree with midlands_drinker.It`s now owned by the asian community , the beer has improved somewhat but i`m afraid i don`t like punjabi music

The Merry Harriers, Hambledon
I paid a return visit to the ` harriers August bank holiday weekend using their campsite. My only regret is i cannot visit as often as i`d like . It`s a pity about the license review . In my opinion, Colin & Julie and their staff work very hard to make the pub as popular as it is. But i noticed as soon as i walked through the door that the walls were festooned with printed email messages of support. It`s the only pub i know where strangers are made to feel welcome.
Some may complain of high prices but, i think the price reflects the locality.
I live in the West Midlands where you can get a pint of bitter for 1.80 & lager for about 2.50 in some ` down market` establishments, but , you get what you pay for..
