Half tuppence, you and I both know full well that the recent stabbing at the top of Shepherds Hill wasn't typical of Highgate.
Anyway, a quick glance at your comments history would reveal that you sometimes drink in Wood Green too so you'd be well used to stabbings.

How anyone can rate this bar highly is a complete mystery to me. I have been about 4 times and each time has been terrible. The place is like being in a furnace during the summer months and is therefore unbearable at the best of times, however, the last time I was in just before Christmas the toilets were as bad as any I've seen in London, and the bar staff were serving a pint to a bad smelling vagrant. Its bloody tiny as well. One to avoid!

The Red Lion and Sun, Highgate Village
Was in two minds when I went in after the refurb as whilst the old RL&S had its faults, it was the best place in Highgate to watch football. They've now got rid of the TVs so there will be no more drunken cup final days there which is a pity and one could also argue that the re-decoration is rather bland - think battleship grey. Also, the failure to retain some more of the period features of the old front bar area is a bit of a crime.
Having said that, the old landlord was a right grumpy bastard and the new guy seems very keen to make things a sucess, although better customer service/English lessons for his staff would go a long way.
They have the usual selection of premium lagers, wines and one or two ales and the food is usually good and is in places good value, although the prices may well creep up in the coming months.
In conclusion, a welcome addition to the Highgate drinking scene, if nothing else because it has a late licence.

The Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden
Probably the best pub in the West End which admittedly wouldn't be hard. Nevertheless, a welcome respite from the hell that is the Covent Garden area.

As referenced on my review of the Nellie Dean, 3.30 for a pint of Guinness at the Toucan just takes the piss.

The Faltering Fullback, Finsbury Park
I agree with the earlier comments from Tony about this place having a studenty feel but without the students. Basically a good, friendly pub and one I would go back to. The only down side is it's in Finsbury Park. I have to also say that, contrary to what some reviewers have said, the barmaids are nothing special to look at, although they are very friendly, which is ultimately what matters (honest!).

The Queen's Head, Pinner
Nice enough looking pub, but came in here the other day with a friend and each ordered a pint of Cumberland, only to be given a couple of glasses of cloudy dirty slops. Absolutely shocking that a pub that makes such a big thing of its "well kept ales" should be happy to serve such badly kept stuff. Not impressed.
