A boho arty farty bar in Whitechapel. 16 for 4 bottles of lager. No thanks. HLC - 22 Oct 2009 19:34 |
Though pretty small, this place has a nice homely feel to it. Very friendly staff, but the place is let down by a strong sense that the management only care about making money and are out for every penny they can get off you. They stop selling draft beers at around 11pm, forcing you to buy overpriced bottles (half the quantity, twice the price), leaving a bitter taste of resentment of an otherwise promising bar. teverishta - 16 Mar 2009 14:18 |
Visited for the first time in awhile last night and was left very underwhelmed. It's been given a facelift which, while it means that the paintwork is no longer peeling and the furniture largely matches, seems to have robbed the place of much of its charm and character. On the plus side, it is now slightly larger. Discovered to my disappointment that they no longer have Meantime beers on draft, leaving only a choice of Becks, Staropramen and Sierra Nevada. Plumped for the Sierra Nevada which was distinctly mediocre and certainly not worth the 4.50 I paid for the pleasure. Overall, a formerly decent bar which seems to now be sadly on the slide. How anyone can rate this bar highly is a complete mystery to me. I have been about 4 times and each time has been terrible. The place is like being in a furnace during the summer months and is therefore unbearable at the best of times, however, the last time I was in just before Christmas the toilets were as bad as any I've seen in London, and the bar staff were serving a pint to a bad smelling vagrant. Its bloody tiny as well. One to avoid! robin76 - 11 Jan 2008 09:03 |
The Sierra Nevada is certainly worth mentioning as a plus point. The worst thing is the dreadful music - will we never be free of the tyranny of jazz-funk? Sometimes it seems like every bar in London pumps this stuff out. Have a bit of imagination, mix it up a bit for godsake. insekt - 26 Oct 2007 17:25 |
