The best thing to do in this pub is to have a slash in the stinking pissoir before going next door to The Jolly Woodman for a pint. That really is about all it is good for.

Went in Easter Sunday - early evening.
Atmosphere not good just lots of little boys shouting and swearing.
Bloke behind the bar didn't seem able to deal with simple requests.
Sh1t smeared all over the seat of the Gent's loo and floor awash with p1ss.
Avoid.

The Marquis of Granby, New Cross
Met up with wife's family for New Year's Eve drinks. Not been in this pub for about 20 years when I used to live in area, so wasn't sure what it would be like.
Place was busy but not too crowded. Good music and service at bar. No frills/nonsense pub. Prices good. Good crowd of all ages - wo all behaved themselves and got on well.
Had a great time!

The Coach and Horses, Beckenham
Met some friends here on Sat 20 Nov. Not my sort of pub was full of people watching the rugby then the Palace/Sheffield game came on so lots of silly little boys turned up chanting and screaming at TV.
I suppose that watching their team in a pretty average pub in Beckenham and swearing at the tops of their voices is as exciting as their lives get. Then it's home to their X Boxes. I think it's the lager that ruins these twats that and the lack of vegetables in their diets. Palace lost in the end so was quite amusing.
A nice little fight then broke out between 2 middle aged dudes with one headbutting the other.
The headbutter retired outside the pub for a while while the other dude was restrained by a small women. You know the old 'hold me back, hold me back' scenario. He was screaming 'I'll see you in Beckenham you c***.' As my mate said at the time, 'You're in Beckenham now!'
m going to leave this gaff well alones it's full of' men's men' who always worry me. The majority of them look like King Edward potatoes and the others aren't up to much, so unless you like drinking with these types then go elsewhere.
Strange these proud English men do not seem to be over keen on their national drink - ALE and prefer the lager but you they get confused easily.

The Bricklayers Arms, Beckenham
Saturday 20 Nov: Very few people in - went in with a couple of mates who used to use it years ago who were on a sentimental journey.
Asked for 3 pints of Guinness and got 1 full pint and 2 nearly full ones. Barman said he didn't have any more Guinness and that was it.
All real ales clips turned round. Looks like an extensive and fancy menu on offer with good prices but who knows anyone can write a menu on a blackboard.
Place intrigues me for some reason and am going to go back on a Saturday to see what the food is like. Something tells me that from the previous comments on this board it should be interesting (probably in a bad way).

The Grape and Grain, Crystal Palace
Guv got a well deserved New Star Award from CAMRA last night. Beer Fest kicked off Friday. Pub was packed out with a good humoured crowd and there was a great atmosphere. I had been out for most of the day so couldn't stay to the end. Great beer, good food and CAMRA member discounts on beer and main courses. Very good jazz band - think music on a Saturday is a great idea and would be good to see this more often.
I sincerely hope that this place gets the success it deserves in terms of lots of customers spending their dosh as this pub just gets better.

I use this Wetherspoon a lot for meeting friends and cheap eats with family. Real ale quality, prices and range are great and food is also good value . The guvnor Stephen does a great job keeping everything in order and this helps keep the atmosphere the right side of 'interesting'.
Rate this place highly as a JDW but also as a community pub - I think it is a real centre for the community.
The bar staff have been very good up until recently - have noticed that there are a few new ones starting out and it has to be said that they could be better. A little charm goes a long way in this life. If you really don't like working in a pub best move over quick and let someone else have a go. In other words I don't need attitude from little boys after a hard day's graft. Also not impressed when barman feels need to drum on till with the spoon my wife is going to stir her coffee with. Bloke in question also feels need to shout 'NEXT' a lot and crack non-funny jokes. Small quibles - this is a good pub.

The Grape and Grain, Crystal Palace
Been using this pub for about 4 months and pop in for an hour or so on Sundays to hear(free) jazz. Have seen 4 different acts - all have been very good. Sunday lunchtime customers seem like an older chilled out crowd there for jazz not sure what it's like in week but hope to find out soon.
Can't really fault the place - great quality real ale range, wasn't too sure at first whether there was trade to support the amount of handpumps but the quality suggests the beer is being turned over. Some interesting brews to be had.
Food simple pub grub - good portions/quality/prices ok.
Pub fitted out to a very high standard including spacious loos.
Good outdoor area at front.
Guv seems to have a vision and seems like a no nonsense guy. He really deserves to succeed and I hope he does as a simple pub doing things well seems to be a difficult thing to find these days.
So, if you live in the area give it a go!

Gone rapidly downhill since Chris (guv) left. Gents stink, only one door on them last time I checked. Not verified on last couple of visits as I couldn't be bothered to order a second drink.
St Austell Tribute (not that well kept) a very expensive 3.50/pint. When I pay this much for a pint I expect some decent surroundings.
Staff seem to struggle to keep busy and smile. Shame used to be a reasonable pub with a good team doing their best.

Beer quality very good - would like to see range change a bit more often with the odd different ale. There is definitely the volume to experiment.
Guvnor born to run a pub and knows how to keep locals happy and is very visible.
Downside: Can get very busy and some of the customers could play a bit better when it comes to letting people get served.

Good value pub for Beckenham area.
Real ale quality and prices pretty good. Was in there on the day after St George's Day and was a bit puzzled why all the top ocal patriots were on the lager. Some people will never get it - I hope their hair grows back.
Staff seem happier and more responsive of late and service is good even when busy. Guv often around at peak times keeping an eye on things and I think he does a good job keeping it all on track.
