The Town of Ramsgate, Wapping

Have been here twice now. Pint okay (Doombar) but food was awful. Overpriced and lacking flavour. They even managed to screw up a prawn salad. Stick to the beer

Queens Arms, Basingstoke

Pop into this pub regularly. Staff are friendly. Beer is good. Nice atmosphere too. Have not tried the food but looks pretty good to me.

The Crown Country Inn, Munslow

Had the pleasure to stay in this fantastic Inn recently. Had a couple of pints of 'Golden Glow' which was perfect. The food is truly wonderful. Very nice rooms too. Richard and Jane are the perfect hosts! Seek this one out - you will not be disappointed.

The Wheatsheaf, Virginia Water

I went here last Sunday for lunch with 4 other people. It's a Chef and Brewer but this fact is not advertised too much (I wonder why?) It was hot outside and the hotel was crammed. I was driving and so did not drink. My friend ordered a pint of Doombar which he said was reasonable. The food though was another matter. I order a beef roast lunch; the meat was tepid and tasteless and the vegetables were aldente to the point of not cooked. One of the party had the sea bass which they thought was okay. My wife had pasta which again, was okay. The meal for 5 came to 55.00 which I guess is pretty reasonable. However my gripe is that the menu is too big, they try and serve too many people, the food therefor at best is 'okay'. Why don't they concentrate on improving the food and charging more? Better ingredients and less 'tin-ting' (microwave) meals. Sure they could not giver a flying wotsit what I say as the place was heaving but I for one will not be returning.
A pretty poor dining experience.

The Castle, Basingstoke

Has anyone seen anyone in it - ever??

Abaya, Weybridge

Recently voted the 'most violent pub' in North Surrey I understand... So a chance to loose all your teeth and your money in one go! If you like that sort of thing then this is the sort of thing you will enjoy otherwise keep away.

The Victory, Chertsey

Worst pub in Chertsey? Try Surrey...

Queens Arms, Basingstoke

Popped in for a couple of beers the other night after getting off the train. Very pleasant indeed. I'll be back!

The Kingfisher, Chertsey

I will have to change my previous glowing report! (see my entry on 1st November 2007)

The food has seriously gone downhill. I think they are suffering with the L.O.F.L. syndrome (Left Over Fron Lunch). Had roast beef a couple of Sundays ago and it was cold and tasteless. Thought it was a one-off and went back for a burger that could have been used as a hockey puck. The salad was best before end of May which was a pity as this was end of June.

Won't be going back...

The Great Western Hotel, Basingstoke

Extremely dodgy - they used to use this place to train the SAS in unarmed combat:-) To be fair though I have not ventured in for a while and it might have improved (but don't hold your breath)

The Purple Turtle, Reading

I love this place - I think its where they film the 'Phone-4-U' TV ads! The 'locals' can be 'interesting' to say the least. Draught beer is a little mixed - best to stick to bottled. Music is great and atmosphere is warm, sticky and welcoming. Usually end up here having been for a few light ales in Reading; it's a nice way to see the night out. Has the distinction of being just down the road from possibly the WORST curry house in the world (but that's another discussion altogether)

The Golden Heart, Nettleton Bottom

Stopped here twice - on the way, to and from, Shropshire. Food was excellent and beer was top notch but could only have a half as I was driving. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the brew too. Pity I don't live closer to it :-)

The Spinnaker, Docklands

Good place to go after work and drink yourself daft. Noisy/stacked/filled with chaps who think they should be in a Guy Ritchie movie but some charming la-a-a-a-adeez!

Good food and reasonable beer. Staff very friendly; especially the serving staff! Have been there a number of times and would recommend it.

The Woburn Arms, Addlestone

Yeh, it's a little pikey-tastic in there. The beer is okay; reasonably priced but nothing special. I ate in there once and was not impressed. Barstaff seem friendly enough but would not go out of my way to go back :-(

The Royal Oak, Lasham

Food is great and the beers are a treat. Staff are always nice and friendly. Lovely area too.

The Alehouse, Reading

Beer wonderful (if a little on the pricey side!) Toilets are hideous and the locals can be interesting. No mobile phone rule is good. Have been in a number of times and found the bar staff a mixuture of the good and bad. There was a "gentleman" who served behind the bar who looked very much like 'Comic Book Guy' in The Simpsons. He was shockingly rude (the locals just used to laugh) so I wonder if he was just playing to the gallery? Still, it's worth a visit and probably the only place in Reading where you will get a decent pint...
