I travelled up from London last weekend and on the recomendation of friends, went to The Swan.
I didnt expect to find such a unique place in Cheltenham. Decor was welcoming but funky, i especially liked picture of the Queen and school pictures of the regulars. Even though the place was packed, we got served promptly and with a smile. The food was very tasty. Good quality without being gastro. There is a very pretty walled garden out the back where we enjoyed good PImms and even better ales.
This place compares favourably with the more expensive places in Montpellier area.

I went here yesterday with my husband. We usually go to The neighbouring Swan but my husband, being a licensee wanted to try a new venue. We liked everything about the place. The food was very good honest Anglo/Spanish grub. Cooked very well. Ales and pimms were excellent.
Only negatives were that the garden became a creche anf the ocopus could have done with a little more acidity.
well worth a visit.

The Duke of Sussex, Chiswick
Previously had a good meal here, so went there again last week. The two staff who were chatting to regulars didnt acknowledge us until i went to the other side of the bar and looked at them both directly. "are you waiting" was the response i got.
When we were finally served we sat in the garden and waited for someone to take our order. After ten minutes and no acknowledgement of our existence, i walked to the bar to confirm that food orders are taken at the table andwas told that somebody will be with us shortly.
After fifteen minutes, we finished our drinks and left. still no acknowledgement form any of the five or so staff that were on duty.
I run pubs for a living and for me to see such a great old building occupied by people who just dont get it, saddens me. You may have an attractive bar, but if you dont do the basics right you will not survive.
After wasting 50 minutes of my life, we went down the road to the swan, wich was excellent as usual. Duke of Sussex staff do yourselves a favour and take a trip down to The Swan and see how its done.
