The last few years has seen Putneys numerous quality pubs stripped down and reimaged as trendy city pubs, which is a real shame in my opinion. This is one of the few places I can find that still shows football, which is only one of a few good reasons to go here it has nice beer, fine bar staff and a pretty relaxed atmosphere. It too was recently renovated, but did manage to retain most of its charm although I lament the loss of the quiz machine

People living up near the Heath basically have two choices of local the Green Man and the Telegraph. I would say they are pretty close in quality, but the Green Man shades it for me better value, better staff and better food. The garden is really nice during the summer, although it doesnt get a great deal of sunlight. It is indeed a cosy little pub, and Ive had several really nice days/evenings down there.

I've lived by this pub for a few years now and have seen it in two separate incarnations: pre-makeover (cheap, unwelcoming, quiet but somehow charming) and post-makeover (expensive, welcoming, busy and still fairly charming). Drinks are overpriced but very well looked after, the food is extortionately priced and pretty average. Its a great place to spend a sunny day, and a reasonable place to pop in for a pint during the week. It would be a lot better if they dared to show football (the landlord tells me it draws the wrong crowd!) and didnt have so many kids running around but if your less grumpy than me youll have a good time. Just bring loads of money. The staff are generally good and pleasant, but there are one or two who are terrible.

The Eight Bells, Putney Bridge
I love this place - as one over poster says, it is the most unpretentious pub in Putney. It's ideal to pop in to on the way home from a hard day's work, or to spend an afternoon watching the football (would avoid if Fulham are playing at home though). It's welcoming, full of characters and not too expensive. It's just a nice 'proper' pub in a suburb full of soulless winebars...
