Demolished; thanks hall and woehouse, tou randown a previosly lovely pub, once you got your wretched hands on the place; a real loss to the community; now only another wretched h and w overpricedfood driven nopubatmosperedrearydumps, remains as a mockery of allthat is great about British pubs, sculks nearby, the blackswan, ironically a foreign species.

The photo, is surely pre hall and woehouse takeover, when it was a lovely pub; since and now, a horrible dump, badly run by the numerous managers who have passed through, under the appauling rule of h and w.
had a drink there, with a pal, to see any improvement, as bad as ever, awful atmosphere, manager busy viewng a inappropriate video on a laptop on the bar. once llovely beer garden a muddy mess, debris piled in corners

Iliked coming here for the occ drink, but recently tried a meal there;dire. the pub, historic, has been slighted by the new manager, who has removed the wooden entrance door, replacing with a glass door, horrible. This chain owner m and b vintage inns, ruins every pub it acquires, all previous character is spoilt or lost see also the previously great golden galleon, exceat bridge; so many good pubs are being neuteredby these chains.the drinkers area is minimal food overpriced, horrible/see trip advisor; chaotic service,

Some bar staff rude and unfriendly, beer of great choice, but variable condition, loose dogs wandering around, rough and ready clientele, would make strangers, particularly solo drinkers, feel uncomfortable.
For the locals.

It is a shame, that the far superior, pre-hall and woehouse, THE GRAPES, was neglected and demolished by owners; was real pub, Black Swan, is not a local or a real pub, is a business model to sell food, with irritating piped music, constantly on, as a bonus, The bar service was polite and efficient, but the h and w refusal to allow choice of real ale, other than their own brands, is very backward and shortsighted.

The Partridge, Partridge Green
Unfinished look about the interior; unmatched, inadequate tables and chairs, too many empty spaces, pretty characterless.
Exterior and front steps, characterful, I woulnd't go here regularly, as although the beer is ok, a pub should offer more.
Ababy on carpet, with two female drinkers attendant, just doesn't sit well in a pub.

Beer well kept; polite staff; observed a drunken argument near our table before Christmas, alcoholics, could do with more comfortable and better planned seating.
Potentially, a very good pub, but I doubt it will get the necessary investment to step up a level; but, above 90% of usual poor Crawley pubs.

Made a special journey here; not up to the hype; gloomy, depressing decor, dining room chairs circa 1970, no decent strenghth draught ale on tap that day; never again

Beer was ok, but lousy ambience, overlit, sterile, unfriendly bar staff; left after one.

The Jolly Tanners, Staplefield
The Jolly Tanners, would be vastly improved by new carpets and seat covers; it is like sitting in a flea pit cinema - greasy and smelling of dog pee.

Food bpassable. not great for beer choice. not much room for drinkers
best of the bunch in the area, avoid the dingy dump over the road

Dingy smelly and uncomfortable establishment; surly girl served me; unsavoury customers fartingg and belching. own brew not great, winey and staleish.
Outside, horrible view of cars.

Food is pretty good; beer ok. tables and furniture needs a revamp; greasy varnish feel. uninspiring interior staff were mucking around with customers, shouting , etc, was a bit offputting.Place could be improved, outside garden unpleasant

i like the building; beer choice poor, meal was poor, uncooked chips, micro-curry. come on, make more effort, just because standards of b and b's, restaurants and pubs in wales, are generally woeful, raise the standard.

Iwish the silent character who runs this establishment would retire; he''s not cut-out for the job - no interest in good ale, or pride in the appearance of the place -no choice, little behind the bar, pricey, hopeless.

fullbelly; the pub is in colgate, not faygate.it closed, because it went downhill and was a dump.it was a great pub, in the pre-hall and wwodhouse days; when they take over, it is a death warrant
16 May 2010 14:12
OK for an odd visit;beer kept well, but awful hall and woodhouse bitter, pub cant help this; the main critiZscism, regarding intrusive, dreadful so-called soul music / modern soul has none - constantly playing, sometimes loudly, i think mainly to help the staff get through the shifts; very wearing and annoying for discerning customers.

I like the pub, but pricey beer. Clientele, surprisingly rough, boasting about drink-driving convictions, also some depressing macho dog types, one carrying a bag of dogshit and dumping it in the pub bin; lovely..
