The Lower Angel, Warrington

Was introduced to this pub by a chap I met in another pub in town. Really friendly place, old fashioned in a good way. On my first visit there the cellarman/brewer, Aidan, opened up the brewery and gave me a tour. Brilliant! I've been back half a dozen times, recently with my new other half. The place doesn't change, which is a good thing.

The Blackfriars, Inverness

Spent a week in the area with work, and called in every evening. Good selection of Scottish and English ales, good food, good company, and the licensees were very welcoming. Definitely worth a visit.

The Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley

Pretty much back as it was, one of the best pubs in the area, and the beer is now on consistently top form.

The Albion, Chorley

Recently changed hands, and unfortunately not what it was. Fine if you want to spend your pub time watching soaps and MTV, and the beer is fairly cheap.

The Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley

New / old manager, Dave, is obviously putting a lot of effort into getting this pub back on it's feet. The place has been cleaned up (at least the pub area!) and the regular customers and staff are coming back.
Only three or four Beartown ales at the moment but this will increase over the next week or so, and the three we've tried were on good form.
Getting back to something like it was, and a very welcome return. It would seem that 'people power' paid off for once, and Beartown eventually listened!

The Bay Horse, Heath Charnock

Traditional, friendly pub with excellent view across to the West Pennine Moors. Would be a good base for a day's walk around the Rivington / Anglezarke area.
Had three real ales on the last visit, our 'Cumberland' was in fine form.

The Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley

Like westpennine, I and a few others have had our 'valid' comments removed. We weren't joking (unfortunately!) Not long ago this was probably the best pub in central Chorley, I've heard it described as 'more of an institution than a pub'. Under current management the place really is smelly, dirty and unfriendly. It appears that the new people have justed moved in and imposed their own preferences overnight, with no idea of either the local real ale market, or of the 'institution' they were taking on.

The Albion, Chorley

Traditional two room pub just off the town centre, with original Victorian panels in the lounge. Now has one or two guest beers, alongside the usual Tetley cask, Jennings bitter on the last visit. Quiet and friendly, and well worth a look.

The Prince Of Wales, Chorley

Probably the best real ale 'drinkers' pub in central Chorley at the moment. The beer is consistently good and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Excellent!
