Popped into here on the way from Oldfield Park Station to Twerton Park, and was really impressed by the friendliness of the landlord and the local I chatted to at the bar. It's a bit invidious comparing it to the Royal Oak - it's not trying to be the Royal Oak. But what it does, it does well. I shall return when I next go to watch Bath City.

In there yesterday before the rugby. I still thinks it's a great pub with a great tatty bohemian atmosphere, but the staff quibbles are STILL relevant. Obviously, it was impolite of me to want to interrupt the two barstaff in their busy lives, as one was having a lovely conversation with her friend who was sitting at the bar, and the other was oooohh, I don't know, mentally wrestling with the fine-tuning of a unifying philosophical theory or something. I'm sure it wsn't JUST gazing into space avoiding making eye contact with customers. I do note the comments made by at least two other reviewers that some of the staff may have qualifications in applied psychopharmacology. This would be consistent with my findings.
So, a great pub, but if it could just stoop so low as to consider such breadhead concepts as customer service, it would be even better.

The Robin was my 'local' (ie not my nearest, but my 'local') from 1975 to 1987 and then whenever I was in Sutton from 1987 to 2004. It's so nice to see that the pub I spent so much happy time in with my Dad is still what it was (although I'm old enough to have been a regular in the old public bar and remember the Baileys). Long may Ken reign!

The Cow, Cambridge
@Rhode_Runner: It USED to be called 'The Red Cow'. It's 'The Cow' now.
