This pub suffers from its location (rather like the Trout in Wolvercote, Oxfordshire). The location is fantastic, by the canal, lovely trees and a playground for the kids. This means that the pub can get away with expensive, mediocre food and drinks. The place is heaving with dogs, including large numbers of small yappy ones and their irritating owners. A stressful, pricey experience.

This pub has been up and down over the past five years, and is now sadly down. The current owners started off well, with good food, good beer and comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. But now there is an atmosphere of stress and tension. Getting told to get out because the kids are making a bit of noise (really, they weren't too bad) was the last straw. These days village pubs need all the custom they can get, and I'm afraid that means families too. Won't go back until owners replaced.

Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford
When this opened I thought it would be the perfect town pub- excellent beer (local and foreign), good fresh food, not too noisy, non-smoking area.
Then the beer quality nose-dived and they lost their interesting guest beers, the food stopped, and the staff looked like they'd just walked in off the street. Very sad.

This pub was closed for a long time for refurbishment. The owners have done a great job. The atmosphere is friendly, the decor is stylish, the seats are comfy, there is a real fire, a telly for watching sport (if that's your thing), the beer is kept well and the food is excellent. The garden is nice for summer drinking, right next to a small stream. There is parking round the back and a gate to Blenheim Palace grounds is just over the road. What more could you want?

Lovely pub - good food, excellent beer. Have had a few meals here, with a large group of people at Christmas, where we did chop and change numbers a bit, but they were very accomodating. Set menu very good value. Have eaten and drunk here with our 2 year old and it has always seemed very child friendly. Would disagree with the comment about the Tite Inn - haven't found the beer there as good (a bit dead). R

The Hour Glass Inn, Exeter
Fantastic pub, excellent food (well worth the money, this really is high class grub but with a home-made feel), great selection of spirits. Decor and atmosphere are relaxed.
Moved to Devon from Oxfordshire a few weeks ago, this is the best pub we've been to down here yet.
