The Rose and Crown, Stoke Newington

Sadly this pub has become poncy and very up itself.
The bar staff used to be friendly, now they are mostly snobs who look you up and down disrespectfully if you don't look cool enough.
There used to be a good mix of people, now it is mainly middle class snobs who won't talk to anyone else but their little party of friends.
What was once a nice pub is now a nightmare pub.

Devonshire House, Crouch End

Service was abysmal, the barmaids who served me were both bloody rude and horrible. The Kronenburg tasted of gnats piss and made me feel ill for hours even though I only had half of it.it tasted like it was five years old skoll. No wonder it was cheap. The other punters were rude. Bloody horrible place.

The Elgin, Ladbroke Grove

Can't say I liked this pub much. It's expensive, popular with yuppies, I found the service totally weird, I got served immediately on arrival, but I went to the bar half an hour later and was given the long stand treatment by all the bar staff and couldn't get served, god knows why, now in my 30s and haven't had that sort of shit since I was about 18. guess I wasn't trendy enough for the snotty Elgin, needless to say, won't be going back.

The Rochester Castle, Stoke Newington

If you want to see the real Hackney before it became all trendy and up itself come and drink here. But be warned, the service is very hit and miss and some of the characters drinking appear to have fallen on very hard times. Not for the faint hearted or those wanting to be around pretty faces when they go out for a drink, but this pub has some atmosphere which is more than can be said for quite a lot of the newer pubs in Stoke Newington.

The Skyrack, Headingley

The Skyrack of old might have been a bit rough and ready but it certainly wasn't this boring. I remember it had an alternative vibe and a good juke box. Since its refurb about 10 years ago the new skyrack is little more than a tacky and quite chavvy student bar showing sports. The average age is about 22. Easily the worst pub in Headingley, which by Headingley standards nowadays is extremely poor.

The Lion, Stoke Newington

Firstly yes it was the Magpie and Stump.
I always liked the layout of this pub with the curved bar and cosy atmosphere.
Unfortunately very dominated by the 20something crowd nowadays.

Shakespeare, Stoke Newington

Was here last weekend. Good little pub with an authentic interior, beers a bit expensive, tho' to a certain extent you get what you pay for. quite trendy and interesting crowd. a refreshing change after most of church street which is mostly given over to 20 somethings.

The Dublin Castle, Camden

Was there last weekend. The atmosphere of this place never changes. The rear bar is OK if you fancy a no nonsense night out with a live band or the indie/sixties music that the DJ always plays. But that said it isnt trendy at all and feels more like a pub up north than a London venue, the clientele in the pub as a whole are mostly just shy and cliquey 20somethings and alternative/indie kids. The layout in the front bar is a bit crap. Unless you can get a table which is normally impossible, you have to stand up and unless you face the wall you feel like everyone is staring at you. One thing that is better is that the bar staff are more polite than they were, they used to be right miserable and rude.

The Moon Under Water, Balham

This is just a normal London pub. It's just all the oversensitive suburban mummy's boys and girls who move to Balham when they finish uni who cant handle it because it is a big dose of reality and isnt full of pretty, happy smiley friendly polite people.

The Good Mixer, Camden

Used to be good fun with a flirty atmosphere on Fridays and Sat, a good place to talk to girls. Sadly as other people have said increasingly rough nowadays. Got eyeballed last time went in and had to get the F. out before things kicked off.

The Lock Tavern, Camden

Awful yuppie pub, went in once , not returning. Full of posh 20 something girls and their boy friends and hangers on from Primrose Hill and Hampstead who don't look at anyone they don't already know and tunr their noses up at punters who aren't good looking and well to do or both.

The Enterprise, Chalk Farm

Possibly the best pub in Camden nowadays since the ones around the market are either totally rough or full of tourists and students and the ones nearer Hampstead or Primrose Hill are totally snotty and crap. The evening with the DJ playing motown (used to be sunday might have changed) is always worth a visit. The locals are generally OK but this is London so don't expect conversation with the people on the next table.

The Original Oak, Headingley

I can't understand why anyone would like this pub. It's rough - be careful whose eye you catch, if it is male they might want to get into a fight with you, it it is female expect a scowl or a rude remark. The service is dreadful - possibly the worst pub in Headingley. At both bars, the staff always pick on people they don't like the look of and refuse to serve them or leave them waiting around. The sad regulars always come first. Short changing is common. The atmosphere downstairs is slightly better than upstairs which is like a tacky 90s wine bar. The green is full of annoying students.
