The Norfolk Arms, Steyning

Asked if they serve food at lunch time and told there is a wide variety of crisps! This is a friendly locals' pub. and a real gem. Pint of Harveys was good. Looks as though little has changed in the last few decades other than the carpet. Won't be to everyone's taste but for those who prefer real pubs with a great atmosphere, it's a must visit.

The Lopes Arms, Westbury

Walked past on 26/03/16 and was shut with a To Let sign hanging up. Shame as is a lovely Georgian coaching inn in the nicest part of town, in between the church and the small market place.

The Horse and Groom, Westbury

Had lunch here recently and both mine and my partner's meal were good. Reasonable choice on the menu for veggies too. Sat in fairly quiet rear bar set out for diners as the front bar was busy. Only had the one pint (think it was Doom Bar) but tasted pretty good. Worth a visit if you fancy decent pub grub (think it was the only nearby pub serving food on a Saturday). Shame hadn't seen it in the evening as liked the look of the front bar.

The Three Swans Inn, Frome

Spent best part of an evening there over the Easter weekend. Pleasant staff and friendly locals. Not a huge selection of beer (from memory 2-3), but the two I tried were good. Good atmosphere. 8/10

The Wig and Pen, Norwich

Nice enough pub, aside from the barman calling me 'Buddy' all the time!

The Vine, Norwich

Pleasant enough, although more of a Thai restaurant than a pub.

The Golden Star, Norwich

Like many Norwich pubs we visited, a small, cosy and old fashioned interior.

Maids Head Hotel, Norwich

Worth a visit for the interesting, wood-panelled bar and adjoining room. Food was good. Also handy for the Ribs of Beef, Wig & Pen, and other nearby pubs.

The Adam and Eve, Norwich

Old pub with several small rooms, each very busy on a Sunday lunchtime. Good place to visit after the walk around the cathedral.

Ye Olde Maydens Heade, Kings Lynn

Think this pub could do better when its history and position are considered. Still, enjoyed our two games of pool for £0.50!

Wenns, Kings Lynn

Had only bottled ales so walked straight out.

The Tudor Rose, Kings Lynn

Olde worlde hotel bar. Was full of (well behaved) late teens on the Tuesday after Xmas. Barman put out snacks in dishes on the bar. I assumed it was a birthday party but apparently they were put out simply as the bar was busy :) Glad I visited this pub, although are there are better in town (Crown & Mitre, Live & Let Live).

Live and Let Live, Kings Lynn

Good, old-fashioned boozer. Two small bars. Very friendly. 8/10

The Crown and Mitre, Kings Lynn

Lovely pub with plenty of interesting knick-knacks. Good selection of beer. Landlord is forthright to say the least! How a pub should be.

The Prince Albert, Ely

Went there every evening on a very pleasant three-night stay in the city. Brilliant beers, great landlord, lovely bar staff, pleasant garden, well-cooked food. Perfect! Best pub in Ely by miles

The White Lion, St Albans

Small, double-fronted pub with a bar either side of the entrance. Went in last night but had stopped serving. Shame, as looked a great pub.

White Hart Hotel, St Albans

Was our base on recent trip to SA. Couldn't fault the accommodation (bit pricey, but you're paying for the history and closeness to the abbey etc). Great breakfast. Serve residents till early hours.

The Tudor Tavern, St Albans

Still a Thai restaurant

The Six Bells, St Albans

Superb, old-fashioned pub, well worth the 15 minute walk from the city centre. Was glad to see no foodies or kids, just people socialising and having fun on a Saturday night. My second favourite pub on our 8-pub crawl, after the Lower Red Lion, just up the road.

The Portland Arms, St Albans

Was looking forward to visiting last night, but then realised it's a Fuller's pub - nothing too wrong in that, just they are so similar & formulaic. That said, beer was good and barmaid very friendly

The Lower Red Lion, St Albans

My favourite pub in SA. On the way to St Michael's village (also worth a visit due to The Six Bells). Definitely has more a villagey feel to it. Bar and Lounge with an open bar area in between. 5-6 decent ales. Not staffed by the typical 18 year olds who are more interested in the phones. Top pub

The Goat, St Albans

Popped in here late last night as The White Lion, just down the road, had switched its sign light off. Was serving till 1AM. Were playing karaoke for a bit, but mercifully ended. Worth a visit.

The Farriers Arms, St Albans

Traditional boozer. Good beer & friendly locals, away form the bustle of the city centre shoppers. Worth a visit
