The Saracens Head Inn, Symonds Yat East
A lovely pub in a perfect location. Beautiful in the summer. Nicest pub toilets I have ever seen! Didn't get a chance to eat here but menu looked nice. Will be back to try the food soon.

I noticed this pub was recommended in the Telegraph by Alister Sawday last month so decided to try it. I was really impressed. The pub has been decorated very nicely, it's contemporary and clean but still has a relaxed friendly feel. To start I had figs wrapped in parma ham which were really tasty, my partner had sardines with sun blushed tomato and corriander dressing. The sardines were really fresh and the dish had a great summery flavour. I had chicken stuffed with Black Pudding for main, the chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. My partner had a rib eye steak which he said was delicious, again cooked perfectly. We shared a rhubarb creme brulee for pudding - again delicious. The food is local and the pub is keen to buy locally as they have a board displaying where produce is supplied from. Service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely return and reccomend to others.

The Axe and Cleaver, Much Birch
I visited the Axe and Clever having heard great reviews but was unfortunately disappointed. When we arrived and asked if food was still being served (at 9pm) we were told by the bar person that she would check as the chef was in a bad mood and she wasn't sure if he would still be cooking. She returned to say we could place an order. We looked at the menu and my companion chose breaded mushrooms to start followed by steak. Being uninspried by the selection of starters I settled with a fillet steak. The menu was not seasonal and appeared to be filled with dishes that would be reheated to order.
My companions mushroom were, as I expected , frozen. Although the deep fried breadcrumbs were crispy the mushroom inside was slimy and tasteless. The dipping sauce was out of a jar and loaded with sugar.
My steak arrived served with frozen peas, greasy chips and a salad garnish. The steak unfortunately was overcooked, I asked for rare but got medium, it was also tasteless and not as tender as a good fillet should be.
The staff were plesant and service quick, but the food was very disappointing given it is located in Herefordshire which is a fabulous county for fresh local seasonal food including fabulous beef.

The Pandora Inn, Restronguet
We had lunch here when on holiday in Mylor for the week. Its an idyllic location and perfect to call in at if you are in a boat! We sat outside as we had the dogs with us. I had a glass of house white which was perfectly chilled and my partner a pint of Tribute (he'd go back for that alone!) We had prawns to start which were a little disappointing, they were mushy and didn't taste fresh - the fish pie was lovely though and made up for it and the blackberry apple pasty with clotted cream was delicious. A really lovely place to chill out for the afternoon in the sunshine. Would visit again if we went back to the area but would avoid the prawns!!
