The Tanners Arms, Horsham

Enjoyed the Easter beerfest, but was disappointed to find that they were still trying to sell the totally flat and obviously "off" leftovers a week later. All handpump clips turned round as well, so no choice but to go elsewhere.

The Kingston Arms, Cambridge

The perfect pub! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, clean & comfortable, 10 real ales and good food all at a reasonable price.

Black Horse, Nuthurst

Could be a really nice pub but spoilt by badly kept beer. I don't know how they ever qualified for a Cask Marque!

The Jolly Tanners, Staplefield

What a great pub; clean smart interior, friendly landlord, perfect beer, who could want for more?

Wenlock Edge Inn, Wenlock Edge

I visited this pub as a grockle a couple of weeks ago and my experiences were the exact opposite of Graewolf. There was no sign of clique-iness; the staff and locals were very friendly. The beer I tried (Hobsons Town Crier) was cheaper than I'm used to paying, and in perfect condition. The food was anything but pretentious with generous portions and a good veggie option. All in all, a great pub in a stunning setting.

The Shakespeare Inn, Coalport

Nice setting & real ales, appalling food and service. Had veggie enchiladas, took 45 minutes, peppers & onions in enormous chunks, barely cooked, sauce out of a jar...rubbish.

The George and Dragon, Shipley

Nice country pub with large garden. Friendly (if a bit slow) service and well-kept beer; the Fursty Ferret I had was in good nick. Will definitely visit again. The only slight negative is that they allow smoking at the very small bar, which is unpleasant for non-smoking customers and staff alike.

The Black Jug, Horsham

Smashing pub, friendly service, great beers always in good nick. Best of all NO SMOKING!

The Owl, Kingsfold

Trendy yet characterful foodie pub with friendly service. Had Taylor Landlord and Hogsback T.E.A. when I visted; T.E.A. was in excellent condition, so I stuck to it. Short pints were topped up without having to ask.

The Abergavenny Arms Hotel, Frant

A very nice traditional boozer.
Pros:
Comfortable with nice decor.
Interesting guest beer (Wadworths JCB when I visited).
Friendly service.
Cons:
Beer range would have been a bit dull without the single guest, Green King IPA, Abbot, Fullers London Pride...yawn.
Can get very busy on Sunday lunchtime, where diners ordering drinks from their tables get preference over customers waiting at the bar.

Ronnie's, New Malden

Pros:
Reasonably smart in it's latest incarnation. Friendly service.
Cons:
Unadventurous and unchanging real-ale selection. Gets too smoky.

Bar Malden, New Malden

Pros:
Adnams Broadside! Reasonably clean boozer with very good bar and table service. No smoking/dining area.
Cons:
Bar area gets very smoky.

The Dukes Head, Wallington

One of my favourite pubs.
Pros:
Youngs Winter Warmer and Special always tip-top condition. Large no-smoking/dining area. Friendly staff and locals.
Cons:
Main bar area gets very smoky. Poor veggie options on food menu.

The Old Bell, Old Oxted

Pros:
Smart pub with large car park. Extensive food menu.
Cons:
Unadventurous beer selection with no guest ales. Always served much too cold. While the menu would appear to be impressive it never changes. The food is not freshly prepared, merely microwaved stuff from the freezer.

The Drunken Duck Inn, Barngates

One of my favourite pubs of all time, which I have visited many times (and occasionally stayed) with my wife when on holiday in the lakes.
Pros:
Beautiful Lakeland setting, the pub oozes character. Good quality pub-brewed beers and fine food (even for veggies like me!)
Cons:
No more Old Peculier (absent for the last few years). The food and beer are expensive even by London standards. Over the years the pub, while still good, has lost something; it seems to be becoming purely a money making operation.

The Fox and Hounds, Romney Street

Pros:
Nice country location, unspoilt village boozer. Very nice pint of Westerham Brewery's Puddledock Porter. Friendly staff & locals.
Cons:
A bit smoky.

The George, Old Oxted

Pros:
Excellent pub recently refurbished. Beer quality is very good; one of the best kept pints of Tanglefoot around. Large restaurant/no smoking area. Friendly staff.
Cons:
Food is very expensive, poor veggie options. Smokers are allowed to sit at the bar, so it's difficult to avoid their noxious exhalations!
