The Tailor's Chalk, Sidcup

Humorous name for a pub, considering there's a funeral directors across the road. Found this place to be far superior than its previous incarnation and an absolute joy to sup a few ales and bitters whenever there's a festival on. About time Sidcup has another decent drinking establishment, one that hasn't - and hopefully won't - be overrun by the hordes of teenage chavs that currently reside within the Portrait's unhallowed confines.

The Plume of Feathers, Greenwich

last time I was here they done a great pint of Tanners Jack, and it's good to see they've added the formidable Skylark. A truly excellent pint for a really top notch pub.

King's Arms, Greenwich

This is an excellent pub. Always walked past it without sampling what brews it may contain, but I'm glad I have now. Despite it's location, I've found it isn't a tourist magnet like other pubs in the area.

The Bishop, East Dulwich

One good visit out of three is not a very good return. The best time to enjoy this pub is during a weekday afternoon. Saturday evenings are a bit of a nightmare. it's going the same way as Thhe Castle, God rest it's soul. No wonder he sold up.

McGlynns, Kings Cross

A good place to unwind on a friday evening after work.
The beer is smooth and it goes down well. Sound Pub.

Ye Olde Greyhound, Eltham

Thank god this hell hole has finally been banished back to whatever circle of purgatory it crawled out of. Shame, though, because this means all the chavs will disperse to other pubs in the area. Not good news for the good folk of Eltham who knew where the crap spots were.

Silver(stainless steel)trays? I got a brass tray the other day. Felt quite tight for taking back the 25p, but remembered that the drinks are quite expensively priced, so the guilt slipped away quietly from my soul.
On a separate note, if that magician was any good he'd have made himself disappear.

Robert de Mortain, Hastings

Came across this the other day whilst on my travels. Found it to be an excellent pub with a good atmosphere, beer and food. Hope all pubs are like this in hastings.

Ben Crouch's Tavern, Fitzrovia

stumbled upon this place with a few mates. Thought we'd gatecrashed some goth initiation ritual. Found the atmosphere very friendly and enjoyed it so much we stayed for several jars. Good to see a place has got the balance right with the theme.

The Horse and Groom, Sidcup

good for a sunday evening drink. A meal here isn't bad either.

Eltham GPO, Eltham

Chavs, baseball caps and surly looks completes the hatrick of shame that this pub has degenerated into.
Prime example of Munter's law for all to see.

The Princess of Wales, Blackheath

Sit on the heath with a pint and watch the sunset on a glorious summers day.

To all alfresco drinkers: if a football accidently knocks your drink over, it's probably one of Eltham Squadron FC's misfiring srikers during one of their training sessions.

The Yacht, Greenwich

Dwarfed by the more imposing Trafalgar, but this adds to the charm. Yet another pub that's good to relax in.
The service, beer and food are all good.

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

Greenwich is becoming a haven for stressed workers who enjoy nothing more than a relaxing pub. The Service is excellent as is the beer. Good place to chill out in the afternoon.

The Bath House, Soho

Decided to try out this pub one day when I was wandering about town. Very impressed with it. Has a relaxed atmosphere and the beers on offer were good quality. Ended up enjoying several jars of Greene King.

The Blue Posts, St James's

One of the better pubs in the area. Excellent food and drink make this an ideal watering hole. Highly recommended.

The Sherlock Holmes, Charing Cross

Good place to have a couple of pints now and then. Very amusing when an australian tourist told one of his mates on the phone it was called the 'Shakespeare Arms'. Elementary mistake to make.

The Portrait, Sidcup

Used to be okay when it first opened, but then my brother had his mobile phone nicked one saturday night. Funny thing is it was an old nokia phone (brick) with only 30p left on it. Some lost soul must have been desperate to phone home that night.

The Metro Bar, Sidcup

no comments posted since 2004? you guys must really hate this place. Mind you, it doesn't do itself any favours. The Metalic chairs are uncomfortable and no amount of alcohol consumption offers any respite.
This pub attracts the local barfly community. But it's alright for one or two. Sidcup isn't a good place for pubs nowdays; most flee the town in droves at the weekend.

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

Good beers, but overpriced. Gets filled with the burberry brigade at the weekends. Closing the beer garden early is a mistake, especially in the summer month(s).

15 Aug 2005 18:51

The Mitre, Greenwich

I do like this pub. Good place to lounge around in until chucking out. Better than the pubs that attract the burberry brigade. A huge screen means plenty of footy action to be viewed.

The Angel and Crown, Leicester Square

Nice little pub. A very good stopping off point whilst shopping or pub crawling. Good quality john smiths.

15 Aug 2005 18:29

The Vale Bar, Dulwich

Not a bad place to be on a sunday afternoon. Food was good as was the service and atmosphere. Mind you, I haven't been here on a saturday night in over a year so who knows what transformation this place undergoes. I've always liked this pub despite its jekyl and hyde reputation.

The Porterhouse, Covent Garden

The only gripe I have is when this place gets packed very quickly, making the room temperature hotter than a tube train at rush hour. Other than that, if you get here early enough, it's a good place to spend an afternoon. The stouts are excellent and beat guinness hands down. The Porterhouse Red is the best pint. (not too sure about some of the bands that play here at the weekends).

Good pub. Needs some air conditioning.

De Hems, Soho

My spiritual home. An excellent selection belgian beer, especially the kriek, be it belle vue or leifmans. The bar staff are always friendly. May this establisment long endure.

The Castle, Camberwell

A sound retreat for a drink after the 'lesser' pubs have closed. Good beer and service. A friendly, lively atmosphere.

Oh, and the barmaids are lovely.

15 Aug 2005 17:56

Red Star Bar, Camberwell

If there was ever a place suffering from a split personality, this is it. I just don't know what it's trying to be. Is it a night club in the throes of becoming a social club? Or some wedding reception gone hideously wrong? My mates seem to be amused by it, though. How long this novelty lasts I don't know.
Tip for the owners: make the drinks a bit cheaper.
