The Senlac Inn & Restaurant, Battle

From the outside it looks nice but inside is a different matter. It's a bit run down and sorry looking. But at least there are plenty of seats and the barman is friendly. Only one real ale on when I visited (Harvey's Best Bitter zzz) which was disappointing. I guess it is a fine place to wait for a train but that's about it!

The Abbey Hotel, Battle

Uninspiring Shepherd Neame pub. A couple of their seasonal ales were on (Kent's Best and Early Bird) which were well kept. Does traditional pub grub at about £8 for a main. Friendly staff. Lacklustre decor. Right next to the Abbey and not far from the train station.

The Prince of Wales, Reigate

Nice selection of the more unusual shepherd neame ales on tap. The pub has recently been refurbished inside so it is very smart but still friendly. There is a beer garden overlooking the railway with a ping pong table. Right next to reigate station so very handy!

The Yew Tree 'Time well spent', Reigate Hill

Three real ales on tap but nothing exciting ie doom bar and young's bitter. This is definitely a gastro pub, with the emphasis on gastro. The interior is lovely and the ladies toilets are possibly the nicest pub toilets I have ever been in. However most of the seating is given over to diners so it's not really the sort of place to pop in for a pint. Beer was reasonably priced and staff were friendly enough.

The Commercial, Herne Hill

The pub is very close to the train station and Brockwell Park (so nice for stopping off after you have had a walk). There were three real ales on. I was offered a taste as the beer I selected was 'unusual'. So a very friendly barman. The pint was much to my liking - well kept. The prices are high - so beware! Inside the pub is snug but with plenty of seating and there is a fixed price menu. I didn't try the food so can't comment on the quality. The punters there seemed more of the well to do set - unlike the Brixton end of Railton Road!

The Sir Julian Huxley, Selsdon

Totally standard Wetherspoons ie beer generally in a good condition, lots to choose from and cheap. The food is the standard microwave stuff - but no one goes to 'spoons for the food. It's clean and generally friendly. Just absolutely no charm whatsoever!

The Harrow Inn, Warlingham

Great pub to stop off if you're cycling the Surrey Cycle Way. To be honest it's nothing too special. It does typical pub grub, but I have not sampled it. The ale is fine. Normally three or four to choose from. Pub tends to be on the quiet side. There is a big beer garden which is great for the summer.

The Fox, Caterham

This pub tends to get very busy. There are normally lots of people in at the weekend eating roasts so difficult to get a seat if you just want a drink. There are normally 3 real ales on tap. Quality is fine but beware this place is expensive.

The Brief, Croydon

seems to have been recently refurbished making it one of the nicer pub decors in croydon. three different ales on tap and not a bad wine list. other customers didn't seem too offensive (this is croydon remember). staff were fine. didn't try the food.

The Spread Eagle, Croydon

probably the least rough pub in croydon - i know that is not saying much! bar staff are friendly and most of the customers don't seem to want to rearrange your face. good selection of fullers ales - including the new front row beer (for the rugby). beer was well kept - 9.90 for 3 pints. not too packed either. upstairs was closed for a private function. didn't try the food.

The Chancery Bar & Kitchen, Fulham

this pub has a lovely interior - there is even a stained glass window.

there is a reasonable selection of beers.

the staff are friendly.

the pub quiz is FREE and you might even win some wine!

Orange Tree, Richmond

i think it's surprising that richmond does not have that many good pubs - so to say this is one of the better pubs is a fair comment.

they have a better than average beer selection and the pint i had was in good condition.

beware though, this pub is close to richmond station and therefore gets very full - lots of the suited and booted crew.

The Rising Sun, Isleworth

this is a bit of an unfriendly pub - not the most welcoming atmosphere.

but if you can stand this the beer is actually pretty good. i was impressed by the quality of the london pride on tap.

best thing about the pub is its proximity to isleworth station.

overall, not the worst pub in isleworth - but certainly not the best.

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

this is a great pub.

like most pubs in the area it doe get busy - but for a reason, it's great.

they have fruli on tap which is very tasty and you can get a mean cherry beer!

good for after work as close to the tube / train.

The Spinnaker, Docklands

this pub is realy only good to go to if you happen to work near it and fancy a quick drink after work. the choice of beer is standard and the food is ok. the portions are qite generous though, although expect it to take quite a while before you recieve your food!

The Lord Burghley, Stamford

Great place to bump into anyone who went to the local public schools! Mainly the sought of place to go to if you want to sit down and have a chat with mates. Beer selection is always reasonable, but nothing special about the place. Although, I do like the beer garden out the back.

The Royal Oak, Vauxhall

OK, this pub is a proper spit and sawdust place. No guest ales, just the standard beers and largers. It is mainly frequented by old men. But this is its charm. It is not a theme pub - there are no chocolate coloured faux leather sofas to be seen. Also the guy behind the bar is friendly aand warm. If your Irish you might like to know they stock Tayto crisps - a nice change from Walkers!

The Marquis of Granby, Westminster

This pub had a couple of guest ales last time I visited it. They were kept in good condition and were very enjoyable. I also sampled the food. Quite standard pub grub, but not too expemsive. I have to be honest it's a bit lacking in atmosphere - lots of midddle aged guys in suits (from whitehall presumably). The sort of pub to go to for a quiet after work drink.

The Market Porter, Borough

i went to this pub on a wet, rainy night and it was so packed people were sheltering in the market to drink their beer. i think this is a testament to how good the place is!

The Otters Pocket, Stamford

This is a small pub but atleast the wooden interior makes you feel you are somewhere a bit different. I'd give it a go.

The Periwig, Stamford

This pub does get quite busy, especially at the weekends. But try not to let that put you off. They have quite a good range of beer. Normally there are a few guest ales. The prices are OK, not as good value as St Mary's Vault around the corner.

27 Oct 2005 20:36

St Marys Vaults, Stamford

This is my favourite pub in Stamford. Always my fist port of call. The staff are very friendly. It's a Samuel Smith brewery so the beer is a bit different. Definitively give it a visit if you are in the neighbourhood.

27 Oct 2005 20:35

The Black Bull, Stamford

The food is not up to much and the beer is so-so. I'd go somewhere else if I where you! Atleast there is a pool table (if you can get in the very small room).

27 Oct 2005 20:33

The London Apprentice, Old Isleworth

There's a reasonable atmosphere in the pub. The beer is OK, but you would be better off going to the Town Wharf up the road.

27 Oct 2005 20:28

The Town Wharf, Old Isleworth

I really like this pub. The beer is very enjoyable. There is quite a range of diffrent beers on tap and bottled. The surroundings are very pleasant. Sitting on leather sofas and overlooking the Thames is a great way to spend time.

27 Oct 2005 20:26

The Woodlands Tavern, Isleworth

This pub has a bit of a rough atmosphere. The beer is all fairly bland stuff. Atleast it's close to the train station.
