Only noticed the change last night as I was walking past so decided to call in. As others have pointed out it is pricey (considering its less than salubrious location) but the beers I tried (Brain's Dark, Skinner's Pennycomequick and Purity Pure Ubu) were all in pretty good nick. I haven't tried the food yet but will certainly give it a go at some point as the menu looks varied and interesting.

I've been a bit tardy in adding my comments about this place. I called in after completing the West Highland Way on 29 May this year and found the beer and the atmosphere most welcoming. Like others I can't comment on the food, as I didn't have any. Whether this convivial atmosphere was due in part to the large number of walkers in the pub, many of whom I'd already met en route, I don't know, but as others have mentioned the bar staff were helpful and efficient, particularly as the place was packed to the rafters. On my visit there were 6 well kept ales on offer - Fraoch, Black Gold, Crofter's Pale Ale, Red Cuillin, Brewhouse Special and An Teallach, which appears to be a staple judging by previous comments. In conclusion this is a fine pub supplying an interesting range of beers, which is well worth a visit.

This pub has been open again for some time now, although it has been renamed the Coach House, and makes a great start point for a pub crawl for anyone coming from the bus station (just round the corner). It now stocks Thwaites' Bitter, Lancaster Bomber and Wainwright on handpull, with one or two guest ales to complement these. If lager is your tipple of choice you have Kaltenberg, Amstel and Warsteiner to choose from.

Returning from Hong Kong after the sevens our original flight was overbooked so we were redirected via Munich, which gave us the opportunity to try the beer here before catching the connecting flight to Manchester. As airport bars go it must be one of the cheapest anywhere and the beer is pretty good too.

I have to agree with the comments posted on this site as I was there again last weekend (8 and 9 October 05) and was treated to a feast of Dutch beers, both on draught and in bottles.

Where on earth do you get Sunderland from Anonymous? Yer man's from Monkey Hanging country - Hartlepool - and proud of it, hence the stuffed toy dangling from the bar.
The reason for this posting is my disappointment at the number of people who feel they have to post anonymously. If you've got something to say, put your name to it, otherwise there's no point in having a forum like this.

That unusual selection of guest beers isn't limited to Thursdays by the way - they're on all week. You have Enville Ale, Fuller's London Pride and Salopian Shropshire Gold as permanent fixtures, then up to 5 guest beers to choose from of which one is usually a mild/stout/porter, all of which are generally in excellent condition. I don't get in there as often as I'd like, but it's always worth a visit.

A fine establishment with plenty of good beer and excellent freshly cooked food run by Mario, who despite the name happens to be German, for his Greek wife's family. We were in Hanioti last September and ended up in this place virtually every night. Knowledgable staff, which always helps, and a veritable oasis for those looking for tasty beer rather than the usual Greek fare on offer elsewhere. Get talking to the staff - you'll find them witty and charming.

Totally agree. Although you have to admire the Over 30's only policy - check it out as you enter. I don't know how serious that is, maybe it's just to deter the alcopop brigade. Whatever, a fine hostelry and another to add to the real pub circuit.

This pub was my local until I saw sense and moved back up north and I always found the beer in top condition - Steve wouldn't put a beer on unless he was satisfied it was ready. I still call in when I'm down that way, usually around GBBF time. All in all a cracking boozer and I can't understand some of the negative comments on this site. Ignore them and give the place a try. If you like your beer I'm sure you'll love it. Say hello to h'Angus for me!!!

The Thatch and Thistle, Blackrod
Went there a few weeks ago with my sister and her family and had an enjoyable meal washed down with a couple of rather good beers (the names escape me at the moment).Heartily recommended.

One of the few brewpubs left when CAMRA was founded in the 1970's this gem of a pub is back brewing and selling Dabley Ale and Dabley Gold (the house beers) alongside Highgate Dark Mild (potentially other mild/porter/stout in its place), a guest beer and a real cider (currently Old Rosie from Weston's). If you're visiting the Ironbridge Gorge and find youself in the vicinity of Blist's Hill Victorian Museum ask for directions, as it's only a few hundred yards from the entrance on a side street running parallel. Well worth a visit.

Spitting distance from the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), this is one of the best beer gardens in the city. I have only just discovered this site and feel that this place warrants inclusion. Although it is now some 4 years since I was last in Munich, I don't think the place will have changed any. Great beer, excellent food in the cellar, in the evening - you may need to book if it's a large party and (at that time) open until about 3 am at weekends.

I have to agree with the previous comments posted. I've been over to Bruges with friends on a number of occasions now (going again in a few weeks time) and we always make a bee line for t' beertje. It's one of the things I like about Belgian bars - the beer menu is so much bigger than the food menu.

De Garre, Bruges
I didn't realise that, despite frequenting this place a number of times in the past, I have never posted a review of the place. As others have so eloquently stated this gem of a bar just off the main square in Bruges is a must visit when visiting the city. This is one of my favourite drinking establishments in Europe (along with the refectory at Andechs Monastery and the Augustinerkeller in Munich). What a refreshing change to have a relaxing beer while listening to classical music in such wonderful surroundings. Just about perfect.
