I came here 12th July 2011, and I must say, this is the worst excuse for a pub I have ever had the misfortune of drinking in. Why you may ask?
Well, first of all the beer (London Pride) was off, and served with very large head, which I must say they were efficient in replacing the pint with one of Young's Summer Gold. The Young's was however also on the way out, with a distinctive twinge of line cleaner. The head was around three fingers deep, and on request of a top up, the bar girl claimed it was 'Just that sort of beer'. Wrong. If it were a Belgian beer for example, it would be 'that sort of beer', but an English ale, with a head that large, just no. No.
I would not recommend this pub to any person. Not even to a fan of dreadfully kept Wetherspoon's beers (which Wetherspoons do a far better job of keeping their ales, despite being over a pound cheaper per pint than this dire establishment).
Simply put, the worst pub I have ever been to.

The Champion of the Thames, Cambridge
A top notch pub, one of the best in Cambridge. Well worth a visit if not for the seriously good ales then for the proper pub nature of the place.

Pretty poor selection of ales on tap, Speckled Hen was poorly kept, and just generally felt like a slightly upmarket Wetherspoons. Go nextdoor to the Eagle for a real pub.

Well after a very fine evening's entertainment from some very talented musicians, aided by some very well kept real ales, I must say I was most impressed by this rather vast public house. I only tried their HSB and Yellow Hammer, the former was perfectly kept but the latter was somewhat over-chilled, if I am to be critical, especially given that when one pays 3.50 for a pint, one would expect a dam near perfect brew. But these few shortfalls were easily made up by the high quality musical entertainment, in particular The Boyfriend Club, who were on fine form. Their best form so far in fact. So, keep an eye out for their next outing to Balham's Bedford public house: well worth a butchers. Cheers

I am looking forward to sampling the real ales this fine extablishment has to offer. Also, there appears to be some very high quality entertainment this evening, with a thoroughly decent band called The Boyfriend Club playing. I myself, shall be in the audience, listening to the class acts and sampling some of the Devil's drink. I shall review post session. Cheers

Cosy pub, roaring fire on cold eves, good quality ales too. A fine selection of beer nuts, and if youre really really nice, the bar lady will let you warm your boots by the fire. A true pub

This is a truly fantastic pub, the beer is very well kept indeed, especially good youngs special and at a good price. The landlord is a thoroughly decent chap, many stories to tell and is also a fine conisseur of whiskys. Vast array of whiskys on offer, from Chivas Regal 12yr to Lagavulin 16, what more could a pubber want. And to top it all, superb sushi.

The Crown and Cushion, Waterloo
The infamous yellow pub of waterloo is no more, the cream pub it now is. Shame shame please return it to its former glory, not even Monica the bar lady approves of its new apparrel. It has to be said though, this public house is still the finest watering hole to be found in waterloo; traditional oak everywhere, and still great ales. A nice pint of hen awaits those who enter. What more could a drinker want - some beer nuts I hear you cry! Yes, they have them too, and taytos for that matter. Fantastic

Rather grotty in appearance from the outside, but once inside it soon becomes aparrent that the theme continues throughout. I must say I was appalled that when asking for a speckled hen, the barman pulled one out, ice cold, from a fridge! Shocking storage of ale. a mighty shame

The George and Dragon, Thames Ditton
I have to say that I was tremendously looking forth to drinking in this establishment, but when I arrived I was somewhat disheartened. I was welcomed by a wondrous sight of many ales, however all with ridiculous price tags. I must say, for the Thames Ditton area, the prices are sky high, and with no justification. The barmen are rude, if not somewhat understanding that the drinks are rather pricey to say the least, and even when I asked how mich the nuts were, he replied '1...sorry'. Says it all. The jazz on tuesday evenings is however fantastic, highly recommended, just maybe have a few beforehand to lessen the drinking there.

This should not be on Beer in the Evening, as it is simply impossible to purchase beer in the evening in this cesspit of a drinking establishment. The bar workers just do not listen, and when they do, they serve the incorrect beverage, served incorrectly. For example, I asked for the three guest ales which were on sale at the time of the ale festival. However, I was served three of exactly the same ale, all served horrendously chilled. How can a drinker savour the delights of a fine ale when chilled? I must conclude that the ales are all chilled to hide the fact that they have all gone off, and also to mask the rather unpleasant sediment that has built up due to the pipes never being cleaned. This establishment should not be permitted to sell ale,; a total waste of fine beverages.

I must say this sudden response from Herculeso to dear chubtank's review is most impressive. I did infact witness the events as they unfolded, enjoying a lovely pint of the 'demon drink' myself, Bombadier if I do remember. The music was truly enjoyable, however the pint 'stealing' was somewhat amusing, heightening my enjoyment of the evening tenfold. The drink was infact taken from chubtank himself, as well as from the rather too young lady, however he was not permitted to continue drinking, despite the appparrent recognition of his 18 years of age. I, along with my companions, one of which is dear chubtank, shall not be frequenting this public house, unless a replacement for his legal pint of the good stuff can be promised. Until then, the up and coming band Harry and the Hendersons and the chaps shant be returning. Alas

I have only graced this establishment once in my many years of drinking, however the one time I did, I was rather impressed at the range of beverages and food on offer. Of course being jdw it is remarkably cheap, not without its downsides however, with ales being served way below optimum pleasure levels, Id imagine to hide the fact that they were most probably off, by quite a few weeks at that. I advise sticking to the lagers.

The Grey Horse, Kingston Upon Thames
I must say I was mighty impressed with the selection of youngs on offer, however a cask of speckled hen wouldn't go amiss. The barmen and women were incredibly welcoming, even giving us some outside worthy glasses in which to carry our winter warmers, very hospitable indeed. Shall be returning soon, especially is harry and the hendersons play again. highly recommeneded, but maybe bring your own sound man if you do intend to play.

Metropolitan Bar, Baker Street
huge selection of drinks, many many ciders, kept at just the right coolness, and ales stop on, lagers alright, but im biased, i dont like lagers. comfy place to have a nice chill, decent bar workers too.
8 Feb 2008 18:49
good jazz nights, expensive ales but gooduns at that. relatively decent atmosphere, customer service could do with a tweak or two.
8 Feb 2008 18:48
wide selection of lagers, though when I asked for a smiths i got fosters, so perhaps double check when you order. strong cocktails, gooduns at that, relatively cheap for london. As the name suggests, its a bar, but if its a pub youre after, go to the crown and cushion just down the road on the right, can't miss it, its yellow.

The Crown and Cushion, Waterloo
A true English pub, superfluous amounts of traditional pub oak, classic ales, speckled hen, IPA and a delicious range of ciders. Foods dam fine, and quality beer nuts. The bar lady's a true charmer, hughly recommended for the more discerning pub-er

Ye Olde Swan Inn, Thames Ditton
The ale was terribly kept - I have never drunk ale that was so sour and acidic. The bar staff were incredibly reluctant to replace the pint, and even then, the replacement was definitely on the way out.
The management have really let the place go. The food is really very pleasant, but the beer - the former biggest attraction of this pub - is truly disappointing.
I cannot recommend this establishment. Walk to the George and Dragon for really lovely staff and much more acceptable beverages.
