Had a pint of Ringwood Boondoggle and my wife had a mixed orange and lemonade (which turned out to be orange and soda water). At the Royal Oak, Fritham, a similar strength beer and soft drink cost 4.20, but here it was 6.20. On requesting the details, the beer was 3.80 and the soft drink 2.40. Maybe the food would have been excellent, but when management push the price envelope too far, I leave. The beer was hazy, but tasted OK, but at that price it has to be perfect. Oh!, and my wife says the toilets were very shabby. A pub to avoid.

Pootling around The New Forest on our bikes, came across this pub by happy chance. 7 or 8 real ales all dispensed by gravity from the back of the bar. Had Flack Manor Double Drop and the house beer Royal Oak IPA, both in excellent, polished condition. Only 2.90 a pint! Their food menu is simple, mostly a variety of ploughman's, but local cheese and ham which we enjoyed in the sun in the huge garden with great views of the countryside. Just about as good as it gets.

Enjoyed lunch here on Saturday. Four real ales: Landlord, Tribute, Doom Bar and Maldon Gold. Good food, good beer and clean and pleasant surroundings. Recommended.

The Old Cross Tavern, Hertford
Small and cosy - two real fires - no music, TVs or fruit machines; all very civilised, but possibly too civilised. I agree with the Music Man that it does lack the feel of a pub, but still a good place to drink, if not to eat - only snacks available.
I think the beers I had one Sunday lunchtime were Maldon Gold and the Tavern's own brew Grin 'n' Titter both OK but unexceptional.

Lunched here on Saturday. Had a pint of JHB and Red Squirrel Porter, both good. Simple steak and chips, lassagne, 2 pints and a glass of wine about 14.50 - that's excellent value. My steak was a generous size and cooked medium rare just as requested.

Clearly some malicious posting activity about this establishment.
4 real ales: Marstons bitter and Pedigree, Brakespears bitter and Hobgoblin. Had Marstons bitter and the Brakespears which were both OK if a bit light-headed. We had the Sunday roast which was excellent, the vegetables being especially good.

Eat here one evening on our narrowboat holiday. Food and beer were both perfectly fine, but the pub does look as though it could do with a bit of TLC.
Was here 21 years ago on a previous narrowboat trip and I swear the craters in the plaster in the room with the skittles table were the same ones! Still it's good that they still have a skittles table.

The Harvester, Long Itchington
Worth the walk from the canal. Good real ale and exceptional food at reasonable prices. Faultless!

The Cape of Good Hope, Warwick
Stopped off at lunchtime from our narrowboat cruise. Situated right by the Cape Locks. Enjoyed our real ale sitting by the canal. Didn't eat here so can't comment on the food, but this is, as earlier postings say, a good old-fashioned pub.

The Jug and Jester, Leamington Spa
Good beer, friendly staff and good food at Wetherspoon's prices. The steak I had was particularly succulent.

Arrived just before noon and moored up outside this large pub on the hottest October Sunday since "records began". Tens of people sitting outside waiting to be let in! 12:00 opening no exception! They were a party booked into the pub's separate function room, so when they did open up it was something of a crush. 6 real ale pumps, but only 2 beers on. Sat outside by the canal, but decided against a second as the queue for the bar snaked nearly back to the toilets .
This is a large and well-appointed pub, but on the day we visited ,it was completely disorganised.

The Kings Head, Napton on the Hill
Took in this pub one Saturday evening for a game of pool and a few pints. Probably more a food pub, but as we didn't eat here, I can't make any comments. Beer was Ok, though, and the pool table a good one away from the main bar area.

Stopped here one Saturday lunchtime prior to starting our narrowboat holiday. Good, unpretentious food - bangers and mash, liver and bacon - at reasonable prices. 3 or 4 real ales - I had a couple of pints of Doom Bar which were excellent. Still has table skittles.

The Waggon and Horses, Graveley
Lunched here on a hot and sunny Friday late September. Very busy, but the staff were coping well. Had a baked potato which was fine and the other fare available looked OK. Had two of the three real ales available, both OK. Yes, they do have a very pleasant beer garden close by the Graveley pond.

The Bulls Head, Ashford in the Water
A Robinson's pub. Had a pint of Old Stockport followed by a pint of Unicorn, both well kept although the Old Stockport was a bit bland for my taste. Both the snack and main menus seemed imaginative.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, Castleton
Found my way here mid-afternoon to slake my thirst after a long walk. Unsurprisingly given the time it was very quiet. A comfortable pub with 5 real ales. The 2 I tried were both excellent.

The Yorkshire Bridge Inn, Bamford
This is a pub very much geared to food, but it did have 5 real ales on, all local and the 2 I tried were both well kept. So if you're looking for a snack or a meal washed down with a pint or two, then this place is fine.

An unpretentious village local offering reasonable food and 3 real ales. Friendly service.

Visited this excellent village local on two occasions while on holiday in the area. 4 handpumps all local brews on both visits. Food was good and reasonably priced.

Visited on a Friday evening. Only Greene King IPA and Ruddles on handpump, so this pub is going to struggle to get a high rating from me, but the pint of IPA I had was kept OK. Didn't eat here, but they were doing a good trade cooking steaks, lamb and tuna using "Volcanic Rock". You don't ask how you want your steak, they sear it and you then cut off chunks and cook it on the volcanic rock provided. Is this a brilliant idea or a stupid gimmick?

Lunchtime visit - 3 real ales, all local. Had a pint of Swift Nick and Crystal Ball, both well kept which I enjoyed with a reasonably priced baguette on the patio overlooking the River Derwent.

The Old Barge, Hertford
Lunched here on Saturday. Had a pint of Tribute and a pint of Wherry. Both perfectly fine, but expensive - around 40 pence a pint over the odds. The food is also expensive -9.95 for sausage and mash - adequate eating, but nothing special. However, the fish and chips at the same price was very poor, two obviously frozen rectangles of white fish.
The Old Barge has a fine location down by the Lee Navigation, but it seemed very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime. I'm not going to quibble about their pricing policy, but if they are going to charge premium prices then the customer is entitled to premium quality which this decidely wasn't.
