This is the towns newest real ale venue. With 10 handpulls comprising of a real cider & perry, The house beer is, local brewery, Grafters Traditional, also a guest from the breweries port folio of award winning beers, a Batemans beer then 5 guest beers from the likes of Scarborough & Worksop's Grafton breweries. The lengthy bar also has a Kraft Keg and a Belgium Beer, Dekoninck Premium. The beers are realisically priced for an independant pub. £2:20 for the house beer and £2:60 for the other real ales. A 10p discount on the real ales is offered to card carrying members of CAMRA (except house beer). Ther is also a nice selection of wines and they are building up a collection of malt whiskies. There is a newly built rear beer patio. The pub aims to have its 6 Bedrooms available soon along with the kitche, producing breakfasts and good old fashioned pub grub. Live music on a Friday and Saturday nights with artists and bands of all types but Saturday is usually a rock night, with the slogan " If you like it Heavy or Hard Catch the Rock at The Taphouse. The second Sunday of evey month sees The Taphouse folk meet. The pub is also sprog & dog friendly but they do insist on children being kept on a lead. Any club or group planning a visit should phone in advance and if enough comes they put on a bit of a buffet.

Four of us visited this pub one afternoon/ evening, as it shuts in the afternoon & doesnt reopen till 6 o'clock.(I think nearly all of Retford does this). Well we ordered two pints ,one of which was sour, as we didnt see which beer came from what pump as we were looking around, the barmaid changed the beer, after admiting `she didnt know anything about beer` but as she didnt remember were she got the sour beer from she gave us the sour beer again. This time she wouldnt change it unless we paid for it. The nuts we purchased were 3 weeks out of date, when this was pointed out this was also treat with a certain amount of disdain. If this is typical of Retford hospitality you can keep it.

Situated at the north end of Gainsborough, this quaint, typical old style, village pub, is run by Tony & his wife , & their capable staff. It is not a huge place but a hub of local life . I only gernerally mention real ale pubs , but Tony deserves a mention because he has a guest ale on over most special weekends, usually Bombadeer, but on my last visit his other favourite(& one of mine) Hobgoblin was on.His beers are in tip top condition, pool, darts, dominos & juke box makes this a pub with a buzz. Check out the steak nights, or any other food nights as they are gr8 value, but need booking as they sell out fast.Quiz night is a Wednesday, & regular karry jokey nights as well.Go & see its worth it.

We visit this plce regulary & the beer is fantastic, the landlord & staff very amiable & helpful. The only problem is the prices, to quote an advert REASURINGLY EXPENSIVE.Only one real ale under 2-50.There seems to be plenty of things going on, also there is an old roving magician who is definately worth waiting for.

The Eight Jolly Brewers, Gainsborough
As the name suggests this small friendly bar is an oasis in a desert of mediocrity. Just around the corner, from wetherdogs, 8 J B`s has 8 real ales(most change when empty)3 real ciders, czech budzvar & leffe blond on draught aswell as dozens of bottle beers. If you catch it right you may be able to sample 11 beers as they are changed as they run out. The pub is in the camra real ale guide & has reached the final of the pub of the year twice.Thursday night is live music night. The staff are all amiable & helpful & will let you sample any of the beers.People travel from all over the region to this pub & all are made welcome. If your in ask if "Harry`s in" & i`ll have a beer with you.
