The Springfield Bar & Grill, Bounds Green
Sadly this Pub seems too be going though a bad patch at present its getting rather run down and the (Owners NOT the people running it) are just letting it fall apart and are not doing any repairs at all. All it needs is a good clean & a lick of Paint inside apart from that its a good old style Pub with the usual locals. There was Courage Best & another Ale on tap as well as the usual lagers on Tap when I was in.

I would agree with the last poster this place is much better than the other Pub up the road. This is much more of a Real traditional Pub with a good atmosphere and things I like too see in a Pub Good Staff friendly & welcoming. I will visit again when I'm Passing.

London Pride was the only Real Ales I see on tap when I went in here. It seemed to lack that real Pub feel It used too have many years ago & The staff seem very Offish. Long gone are the dart board Pool Table and TVs and the Two bars. Now its just one large soulless room Seems too much food orientated for me and it makes it feel like your drinking in a licenced restaurant or hotel bar. I had one Pint and left as it was full of Kids running around screeching making it feel like a Play School.
I went down too the The Osidge Arms instead and found it much more welcoming Pub

This Place has gone down hill since my last visit. The staff with no manners. Short Pints by up too a Inch. Ales too warm & far too expensive If I'm paying 3.60 for a Pint I expect a Pint not three Quarters. You always notice when a Pubs failing they start having quiz nights.

The Clissold Arms, East Finchley
What more could I add most has been said. Its a Terrible up its own arse Restaurant now its not a Pub A Public house has too be open too the Public don't it ?.
I walked in with four other Girls last week and we sat down in the empty bottom bit but was quickly approached and rudely informed it was Table service only and we cant sit where we were and we should have waited too be seated (What in a Pub) We Just got up and walked out Never too return. We went over the road too the Alexandra where there was a much Better welcome.

The Fishmongers Arms, Southgate
This Pub seems too have gone down Hill since I last visited. When I went in early on Wednesday evening it was very quiet just a few Guys play pool and swearing every other word and everyone else was standing around the bar so no one could get served when they came into the Pub. The Place looked as if it had not been cleaned for months Plus the Pint I had was well past its best. Don't think I would go back again.

The Famous Royal Oak, Muswell Hill
Good style old local not far from my house. As has been said its now the only Traditional Pub left in Muswell Hill thats not been turned into a restaurant. Good old fashioned service good Beer no fancy crap Brilliant what more do you need.

This is not a bad Pub it has some good Ales on tap & staff are good . But I feel its being unnecessary spoilt by allowing people too eat food in the Pub Part it should be kept in the restaurant section only. Other down side as already said by another poster is Why are the TVs always on full blast its impossible to talk with Friends If you stop both these annoyances it would be 10/10 from me.

Yes not a bad Wetherspoons this one. I think would and could do even better If some of the Staff spent more time serving customers instead of just collecting glasses or Bottling up theres always far too long spent waiting at the bar trying to get severed when you have a few People ordering food Ive walked out a few times after waiting well over 10 Minuets.
But apart from that the food is good and the Real Ales are always in good condition with some excellent choice of Ales.
Just dont go in there Friday or Saturday as is full of very younger drinkers.

This seems to be a nice Femail frendly Bar with good choice of wine thats Not too bad during the day time or in the early evening after work but it dose tend to get full of absolute Plonkers later in the evenings especilly with all the youger crowed that go to tank up on cheap booze & spirits in wetherspoons then come in here to show off.

I went in here yesterday lunch time for a few seems a nice frendly Bar. Has been recently redecorated and looks much better serves a good Pint of Guinness.

I would have to agree with some of the other comments made recently this is not too bad for a Wetherspoons but it Dose seem to depend on the Duty Manager & Time of day. Sometimes during the week theres a really good bar manager on duty thats very good with Staff & Knows all about Ale takes time to talk to customers and is happy to help. Other times normally Fri Sat nights theres a big grumpy guy who seem very impolite & standoffish and who seem to have no time for Ale drinkers this always seems to attract the wrong sort of crowd of younger drinkers Fridays & Saturday nights maybe because its busier and theres not the same checks carried out.
Overall its a good Pub & the Food is good during the week but I would Avoid it on Friday & Saturday Nights after about 18:00 hrs as it seems to get Full of very young drinkers Most of which seem to have child or 16-17 travel cards when you watch them go back though Southgate Tube Stn.
This situation seems to be made worse by the fact that they seem to get served Large Jugs of Alcopops all night.

Very cheap Place for a beer 1.69 to 1.99 a Pint for most Lagers & Ales cant complain. Reasonable & polite staff good surroundings.

Yes another much Improved Pub with a better Range of Real Ales & Wines Will defiantly visit again and recommend to Friends. Also a good stopping point on the way home if you of the tube at Highgate.
16 Jun 2008 00:34
I Was in here with a few Friends a week or so ago Its much better than it was before. Now its more female friendly without all the Yobs and Football fanatics now all the TVs been removed a Much better atmosphere as well. Also theres more choice of Wines and Real Ales n Its not just Lager.
Only bad point I found is theres no proper Tables or Chairs except in restaurant part It seems to be all those very low sofas and bean bags seats with extremely low Tables how is a party of Girls in there 50s supposed to sit on those come on get some real pub tables thats the only criticism I can find other wise a much improved Pub.

The Alfred Herring, Palmers Green
Me & three friends went in here early on Friday evening after waiting ages to get severed we waited over a hour to try to get a table so we could eat. Whilst we stood there drinking for well over a hour and could not get a table because other people were just sitting there with empty glasses and plates in front of them most were just couples or families just talking not even eating or drinking. The management needs to kick some arse with there staff and get them to move the free loaders on when there finished eating. Do not let people sit there for over an hour with half glass of coke over an empty Table its meant to be a Pub not a Restaurant. So in the end we left and went elsewhere to eat & drink I would definitely not return until the present management have improved a lot I would say this is one of the worst run Wetherspoons I know.

What has happened to this Pub it was once one of the top entries in The Good Beer Guide now its not worth a visit most the time. The staffs are always Ill Mannered with no Please or Thank You and the Quality of the Beer seems to vary from bad too worse every time I go in there. I think you should go back to concentrating on your Ales Like before and get shot of the food if its affecting the business this much.

This is a nice old Pub and its still as it was even in the early seventies. I grew up not far from here just off the Balls Pond Road and its nice just to go back over here when I get the chance as theres not many old style boozers left like this now days. Lets just hope the suits dont ever change it into another faceless crap gastro Pub like they have done with so many others. Pubs like this need and deserve all our support.
5 Apr 2008 12:32
I would totally agree with most other Reviews this is in my opinion one of the best Wetherspoons in North London for Real Ales I dont Know about food as I have not eaten there but Service & Staff are very good. I would defiantly recommend this Pub to anyone.
22 Mar 2008 21:19
Not too bad Pub now since the smoking ban has made it better. Seems to have improved much in the last two years since I last went in here. Good & reasonable Prices for a Pub near Muswell Hill and it has not been ruined and turned into one of those awful gastro Pubs like most the Pubs in Muswell Hill.

The Slug and Lettuce, Muswell Hill
Its Ok for a quick drink but its more like a coffee bar than a Pub. I would not want to stay here too long its got no Pub atmosphere what so ever it feels more like a Station or Airport Bar.

The Springfield Bar & Grill, Bounds Green
Nice Old fashion styles Pub with good Old fashion customer service all the staff & other customers seem pleasant and polite. At least its Not full of self centred wanabes/show-offs and fake designer wearing customers posing at the bar all night. Good Pub for Real drinkers in my opinion.

We went into here Last night in the early evening whilst waiting for a few of the other Woman to turn up before going on to the west end. Seems to be another nice Female friendly Pub thats not full of your usual sports mad Drunkards and Lager Louts. Good for meeting up in before catching the tube. Good selection of Wines & Bottled Beers Little expensive for bounds green but nice surroundings.
12 Jan 2008 12:32
Another good female friendly Pub. Its not full of hooligans & Drunks and Lager louts except maybe when theres sport on TV. But other times its a very nice pub too meet up and have a chat. Good selection of wine & beers as well.

The Old White Lion, East Finchley
Not a too bad Pub Its in a good location & has reasonable Decor inside If a little bit on the dark side. Prices seem to have reduced a bit since I last used this pub over a year ago whitch is good news. Food is Good specilly the Sunday Lunch Has a good choice of Wines as well. The Only down side is the service is very slow takes ages to get served I still give it 6/10

The Bald Faced Stag, East Finchley
We used to go in this pub sometimes after work for a girls night out when I worked in the supermarket nearby It was a right dive then. Its much better now seems to attract a lot less yobbos & drugies now theres no pool tables its much better & Good Food & drink Is a little on the expensive side though.

The New Crown, Southgate
Well what can I say we used to go here a lot after work for a few drinks and occasionally some food but the standard of service has gone down hill rapidly it appears in the past year most the pleasant polite and well trained staff have left and gone elsewhere. Now all that’s left is mostly the ill mannered staff that just stands there looking pretty. Most don’t even have a clue who’s next or have any idea how to pull a pint of Ale because there scared they might break a Nail. Whilst I don’t expect perfect manners a please or thank you wouldn’t go a miss now and then.
