What a super pub, we got a very friendly welcome when we visited this pub. The beer was just right. The food is very reasonable, the fish and chips were superb, I think I got Moby in batter on my plate! Certainly can't complain about the portions here.
Well done keep up the good work, we will be back!
Be warned sadly a lot of other people know how good this pub is so it can get very busy! But it's well worth persevering as the food is excellent.

Wonderful building, great ambiance, superb service, but oh so small portions in the restaurant!
I think for 5p short of 17 you should get more than a piece of Bass fillet which is one and a half inches by 3 inches, I kid you not!
It is ridiculous to charge what they do for their main courses in the restaurant considering the minuscule portions on offer. How they get away with it and get the customers through the doors is beyond me. As I would not go back ever again.

What a superb country pub! Excellent Woodfordes beer served in tip top condition and at very reasonable prices. The food was very good and again all at reasonable prices.
A great pub well worth a visit for a pint as well as for the food.
We will definitely be visiting this pub again when we are in the area.

What a superb pub! Very warm welcome from the owner and staff, serving excellent Adnams beers in tip top condition. I even had a pint changed before I tasted any as the next pint pulled emptied the barrel. So the lady barmaid sought us out and changed my pint! What customer service!
The food is excellent, we have eaten here on numerous occasions, including Christmas day lunch and the food has always been very good.
The owner is sometimes behind the bar on quieter days, as he does a lot of the cooking, but he is very entertaining when he is.
The Fish and Chips are to die for, the home made burgers are fabulous and the calves liver is cooked just right, excellent!
A superb pub in a superb location, serving good beer, great food, and a warm welcome.
Heaven!

What an excellent pub, the landlord gave us a very friendly welcome when we first walked in. There were six hand-pumps all with beer on, Adnams Bitter, Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Woodfordes Wherry are the main beers while the other three pumps have guest beers on.
On this occasion it was Rusty Bucket and Morris Mayhem, can't remember the third one.
I tried the Wherry and the Landlord and they were both in very fine condition.
Since our first visit we have returned several times and on each occasion the landlord has said hello to us and been very pleasant. The food at the pub is extremely good and time needs to be spent reading the blackboards for whats on offer. It will be a regular haunt of ours as not only is the beer kept well they serve some great food and they give a warm welcome.
An superb pub!

A great pub in a stunning location sadly let down by the attitude of the barman.
We have called into this pub on a number of occasions on the way home, but our last visit will be our last visit!
I arrived at the bar and waited to be served, some other customers joined me. The barman had to show some guests to their rooms as they were staying the night, so he went off. Next thing one of the people who was in the queue behind me went behind the bar and started serving himself and his mate. After a while he looked at me a bit embarrassed and said 'I think we just pushed in front of you, sorry.' He then asked me what I wanted and proceeded to serve me when the barman returned. One of the locals sat at the bar said to the barman that the Adnam's bitter that had been drawn for me looked a bit 'thin' and perhaps he should do something about it. The barman slopped some beer off the top of the glass and topped it up from the hand-pump. 'That will be fine now he said', well when I tried the beer it had a distinctive vinegary taste to it. So I told the barman, his response was 'what have you been eating, nothing wrong with that.' And that was it as far as he was concerned. The barrel ran out on the very next pint he tried to pull and so the barrel was changed, the local at the bar had a word with the person who changed the barrel about my pint it turned out. Because he came over with a new pint for myself and also apologised for what had happened.
Which was well done him but the attitude of the barman I found to be too cocky and as a result we will take our trade elsewhere to more appreciative pubs of which there are many.

The Elephant and Castle, Eyke
I decided to pop in and have a look and very glad I did. They have my two favourite beers on Adnams Bitter and Woodeforde's Wherry, and both were in fine fettle.
This was my first visit to the this pub as it has been open, shut, then open again, then shut and now open again. Inside it is lovely a really nice old fashioned pub feel. Very nice welcome from the staff as well, which is always good to get. There were four hand pumps all with beer, the two just mentioned are the house regulars the other two being guest ales. On this occasion they had Saxon Gold and Red Herring, both very tasty beers.
They serve food, not everyday of the week so check first. Several people were eating while I was there and a large party arrived as well. The food looked excellent and the speed with which the customers dispatched it I reckon it must have tasted very good as well. I plan to try their food so will update once I have. I can see this pub becoming a bit of a regular haunt of mine as its not far from home, accessible by bus and does excellent beer and provides a warm welcome. What more can a man want? I wish them all the best.
