Drovers Inn, Gussage all Saints

So disappointing! Had been here for a drink about a year ago and thought the pub seemed great. Decided to go for lunch when the relatives came to visit last weekend and the whole experience was a total let down. We ordered food but waited over an hour to receive it. Not given any explanation, one of our party asked the bar staff how long we would have to wait and we were fobbed off with a weak reason. Lots of other customers were also waiting and getting restless. Finally the food came and it was OK, tasty but not spectacular. We felt the menu may be too big for the kitchen to cope with? The guy who served our food didn't give an apology which we felt was strange, considering the lengthy wait. Upon paying, a large queue had formed at the bar and the same guy was struggling to cope...more of a hinderance than a help to the poor girl behind the bar. My relative made a comment that we had waited a very long time for our food, but the guy just shrugged...no apology at all! In the end my partner forced an apology by suggesting, " Don't you think an apology is in order?" Reply finally came: "Well of course I'm sorry." -imagine a sarcastic tone! Nice attitude... Don't think we'll bother again. The Bull in Wimborne St.Giles looks much better if you're in the area.

The Thimble Inn, Piddlehinton

Very nice pub, didn't try the food but it looked good. Good ale and cider, we bought a bottle of Lulworth Skipper cider to take home- very nice. Will visit again.

The Brace of Pheasants, Plush

Really surprised at previous reviews. Eaten here twice recently, both times at the weekend and both times the service and food was fantastic. Great menu, all food fresh and cooked to perfection- great fish and chips. Superb selection of ales and ciders- shame you need a car to get to it. Staff very helpful, but it does get really busy- probably best to book ahead. Big beer garden and accommodation looks nice too. Give it another try- we intend to visit more often.

King of Prussia, Fowey

A nice pub with good ale and comfy seats- food not bad too. Fills up quickly and often frequented by the younger locals for the pool and music so not always good for a quiet drink.
Good off season.

Ship Inn, Fowey

Ace pub- we love it, fab food and friendly service, the owner runs the place like clockwork especially during food service in the evenings. Lovely log fires and lots of snugs, landlord doesn't mind us getting quietly hammered in the corner with the papers and good ale available.

The Gun, Keyhaven

My experience matches the other reviews, though probably not as dire as those. Rude staff, reluctant to offer information about items on the menu- how dare we ask when our party were spending in excess of 60! Generally a bad attitude and not such an amazing pub- grubby toilets, sticky tables and grumpy staff. Go to Lymington or into the New Forest instead.

The Sandacres Free House, Sandbanks

Great pub, friendly staff and decent food at decent prices. Good selection of ale and lots of seating. Fab views. Pub quiz is good fun, well worth a visit.

The Cliff, Canford Cliffs

Disappointing...food appears to be microwaved, badly, poor service, irritating clientele...lots of young attention seeking kids spending Dad's money. Else full of attention seeking estate agent types and wannabe city kids. But does serve ale. But last resort kind of place I would say.

The Lord Poulett Arms, Hinton St George

Love this place! Best pub in the South for ticking so many boxes...friendly atmosphere, friendly locals, excellent food, good range of interesting drinks, lots of ale and cider, beautiful setting and building and fab accommodation. We visit every year and it just gets better each time. Packed when there is live music each Sunday in Summer, but they keep up with demand at the bar and are still smiling at the end of the night. The food is heavenly. My only complaint is I wish they would open another similar pub nearer to my area!

The Shah Of Persia, Poole

Recently had a refurb and looks very smart now. Staff pleasant and the food is good. Always got some ale on and sometimes cider.

The King Charles Inn, Poole

Love this pub- amazing building and such pleasant staff. But where is the real ale?? And the cider? Seems a shame to not become a bit of a real ale pub...always very quiet when I go in and seems to sometimes be closed at unusual times. But a great place for a quiet drink.

The Poole Arms, Poole

Love the building and ales but that's about it. Ordered a fish pie which on closer inspection only had one type of fish and nothing else, a little disappointing for the price. Partner's meal was great though. Good service from a younger member of staff on this occasion, but upon visiting one week later, we were disappointed to have the landlord being snotty with us for daring to sit at a table to have a drink! We had been deciding whether to eat, but his unpleasant attitude put us off, so decided against it. Such a shame, when we would have liked to have been regular customers. You will know him because he is the one sat at the bar whilst his other staff sweat around him...perhaps he could clean the men's toilets if he has nothing else to do?

Ye Olde George Inn, Christchurch

Used to be even better, service slow sometimes when younger staff prefer to lark about behind the bar...my rating alters each time I go in! Since owners are less visible now, standards seem to have slipped a little, but still remains the best pub in Christchurch for real ale selection and cider. Good atmosphere.

The Ship, Christchurch

What a difference a refurb makes! This pub used to be awful, badly kept cider and ale and horrid clientele...but not any more. Enjoyed a nice lunch, average price, pleasant service and good choice. Decent ales on today and some cider too. Mostly couples enjoying a lunchtime drink, but have been in one evening during Christchurch food festival weekend and it was bustling with all age groups- no trouble. Good to see a Christchurch pub improving.
