I came across this pub by luck and ventured in there on a Friday evening on my way home for a few drinks and a meal. It's has been taken over by a Keith & Anita around October 2011 and they have stamped their own individual style on the pub. Keith does the cooking and it ranges from pub grup to other 'specials' plus he makes alot of it himself...I know I sampled it!
I was impressed overall as I like real ale, he keeps the beer to a high quality.
I waited to post this comment until I went there again but this time for Sunday lunch with 3 friends. They remembered me and I found the service really good and although it's in a lovely village it is well used but with the food menu quality and beer as good as this I'm not surprised.
They have a quiz night on Monday's which apparently are good fun to go to so I may post another comment if I get time to venture down there.
P.S. Make sure you leave some room for the homemade desserts....espeically the cheesecake if there is any left!!

I see the last comment was dated July last year but things have changed for the better at The Harrow Inn. The food quality is extremely high, service very good and it is certainly value for money. The wine list is varied and competitively priced and it has been decorated to a high standard which gives it a warm ambience. It is certainly worth a visit, 9 out of 10.

The Fighting Cocks, Horton Kirby
my recent 2 visits (May & June 2010) were both met with nothing but praise. Obviously since the last updated comment the pub has has a big change. The staff are effecient, food quality extremely high, good prices, wonderful setting in the restaurant and good choices of food from veggie stuff to more upmarket requirements. The pub itself could do with a bit of an update but it still has an good atmosphere. The restaurant and service from the girls though it very good.

The Cock Inn, Halstead
Recently under new management and the new tenants have at last given it some life. Its a real country pub now being used by locals and others as it should be. I went there with my family to celebrate my Mum's birthday and was treated very well. The food was certainly better than before and they even had a Tapas menu to choose from. Went back for Sunday lunch and even though its traditional it was served in a very quirky and upmarket way.....
The beer is good quality and certainly plenty of ciders to choose from, bottled and draught.
Would I recommend it...........yep.
I'm going back there in August as they have a jazz afternoon on the 2nd Tuesday of each month and I'm told its really good.
