Apparently this has closed now too (along with the North star).
Do we all have to drink at Wetherspoons now?

It's so typical that they haven't organized their license. Apparently the owner
didn't want to buy a stamp for the application.
Is this the end for the darkest and most expensive pub in Leytonstone?

The beer is too expensive for this area, especially when you see how grotty
the interior is- they even begrudge switching the lights on in this place!
The service is generally pretty unfriendly as well. I wish someone else
would buy this pub and spend a bit of money on it. Everyone I know
feels the same way!

Oh dear Sir Henry was in a bad mood wasnt he.I can only assume he has never been to a Wetherspoons before; The Walnut Tree is no worse, and a little bit better than, most of them.I have never had a bad pint there, and the majority of the staff are splendid.I wouldnt particularly want to be in there at 10pm on a Friday night but then that goes for a lot of high street pubs.Cheers!

Big pub with a large garden out the back. The bitter is not up to much but they do serve a good range of cheap, tasty stodge in huge helpings. The staff seem notably friendly!

The Rose and Crown, Walthamstow
The Mcguffins Film Quiz here( on the first Saturday of every month)is an absolute institution. The pub itself just seems to get shabbier, and the only real beer last weekend was an undistinguished London Pride.

Now completely non-smoking, a month ahead of the national ban. This is a fine pub with a good range of well-kept beer. It's worth noting that it doesn't open till four during the week.

This feels like the nicest pub in Loughton, especially in the warm weather sitting in the beer garden- but why do they close in the afternoon? It's like they don't want to make money!

The King Edward VII, Stratford
Lovely food, great selection of beers, this is a gem in an area of grotty pubs. The one improvement to be made will come in the Summer when the smoking ban comes into effect. Can't wait.

We were in here over the Bank Holiday and had a good time.Usual tasty Fullers range of beers;food not bad- cheap!- with one or two exotic Polish twists;service very efficient and friendly. All in all, something of an oasis in the Hanwell desert-at least, an alternative to The Fox! We will definitely be back.

doesn't allow children, even in the beer garden.when we asked why, we were told this is to discourage under-age drinkers, which doesn't make sense in the first place, never mind considering the difference
between my 9 month old daughter and a hooded teenage tearaway.
hence an empty beer garden on a lovely sunny sunday afternoon.
still, at least they display a notice of their policy/prejudice,unlike the vile O'Neills in Leytonstone.georgekaplan.
