Windmill Inn, Weald

This pub has recently appeared on the radar of local ale drinkers, along with cider and lager lovers. I have visited several times over the last couple of months, either walking from Hildenborough, or catching the bus from Tonbridge. Great selection of local beers and ciders, along with some proper continental lager, Hepworth Conqueror was on offer for those that like something a bit darker. I can also recommend the food, large and small appetites are catered for.

The Ship Inn Hotel, Porlock

Very very good ale pub, great selection of interesting beer, all that I tried were well kept.

Visited on a rainy Friday in June and really enjoyed sitting there chatting to the locals, and drinking a few pints of beer. Was glad to find a pint of Exmoor Beast after spending the earlier part of the week drinking more spring and summer inspired ale. Pub is very traditional looking and large, stone floors in bar so should be a good pleace to stop if youve got a bit soggy while out walking, or have a wet dog.

The Star Inn, Watchet

Very good and friendly pub, worth visiting for drink and food.
3 or 4 ales and 3 ciders available when I visited, also worth seeing what bottles they have tucked away if nothing takes your fancy. I had several sessions over a week and the ales was spot on every time, mostly from local brewers as well. Only thing I would like changed is to mix the styles a bit, having said that when the Cotleigh Golden Seahawk arrived I stuck with that for the evening.

Food was also very good, especially the duck as a Sunday roast. Luckilly i was aware of the opening times so managed to get a table. Worth booking if you want to eat at weekends.

Papermakers Arms, Plaxtol

A small group of us combined a visit to the Papermakers and Golding Hop with a walk around Plaxtol. A friendly local pub with Harveys and another beer served straight from the cask, cant remember the other due to visiting the Golding Hop before the Papermakers. Beer and staff were excellent and we stopped for a few pints and missed the next bus back, tried to figure out if the pub was inhabited by a small friendly bear, or a large friendly dog. Another pub worth a visit, and can be combined with either a longish walk from larger towns, or shorter walk and the bus.

The Golding Hop, Plaxtol

An exceptional pub in a lovely location, short walk from Plaxtol and the nearest bus stop. A great destination for cider and beer lovers, just remember to check opening times.

Absolutely cracking pub, very unusual to find place like this nowdays. Locals and landlord very friendly, Eddie like some of his cider is rather dry. Food was cheap and there was plenty of it, a pub that serves food to keep the drinkers going. Beer quality was excellent despite the rather hot weather, the price of both cider and beer is on the cheap side for the area.

4 beers and 4 ciders available, including the house rough cider that I believe is made on site. Probably the best cider house in the area.

The Old Village Inn, Bembridge

standard local pub, rather boring beer selection when I visited on a tuesday. friendly with a few locals in for a early afternoon pint, nice place for a quick pint. worth a visit if you want a pub rather than a family and food joint.

The Bottle House, Penshurst

Wide range of food, good value, great beer, friendly staff. SUprised at the negs below, but judging by how busy it gets they must be doing somthing right.

The Halfway House, Brenchley

Great pub, well worth making the effort to visit. The twice yearly beer festivals are a local legend, and the usual selection is the best in the area. The landlord must be doing some thing right to sell enough beer to keep it fresh, especially when you consider that he has 8+ ales available. This is the pub to take visitors for an experience of what ap ub shpuld be like, although oldy worldy inside its also lively, and serves up great food.

If your in the area, give it a visit
