The Grid Inn, Southfields

Not a bad JDW by any means - if you want a real sh1thole, check out the railway in putney!

Admittedly, i'd take the British Legion over here anyday, but for a local "Monday Club" when you're hiding from work, can't go wrong.

Gardeners, Southfields

Top pub - I used to drink in there before, but now it's in a league of it's own. Seems to have attracted non-locals too, as it's very inviting, while keeping the old "diamonds in the rough" regulars.

I agree about the bogs though - black tiles makes me feel like i'm in the 80s again (not a bad thing I suppose). Top bit of grouting, mind you!

Match Bar, Oxford Circus

As bars in the West end go, this is pretty good. Crap selection of bottled beer, but nice cocktails. Crammed with a mix of All-Bar-One'rs, and new media types.

The Idle Hour, Putney

This place is great for a session in. There's even a decent fast food place next door, some crazy couscous chicken tortilla wrap thing. Goes down a storm after 12 pints.

The Fox, Putney

hmmm there are better places. If you fancy skinting yourself while having a ruck then come here on a saturday afternoon.

The Fez Bar, Putney

This place... oh christ this place... avoid like the plague, it's a ghastly venue, reserved for only the drunkest party monkeys on a midweek rampage.

The Coat and Badge, Putney

Not a bad place, not tried the food here. Always packed in the summer, typically overrun with aussies and locals.

The Marquis of Granby, Fitzrovia

Bit of a meeting-point-pub which gets bloody rammed in the summer with new media types....Not too bad though. Wouldn't chance my luck with the stairs if i'd had a few mind you, bit steep.

Fair pint of Stella in here.

The Crown and Sceptre, Fitzrovia

Used to be a good boozer, now full of media types.......

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

Not too bad for a Wetherspoons - usually a hive of raging p*ss artists and ne'r do wells, although I was pleasently suprised with this one. Nice place to hide from work for a while.

The George, Holborn

Wierd little place - have to go back and try it again, but seem to remember (7 years ago) a pool table and local brickies.

The Walrus and Carpenter, Monument

Had a few at lunch in here today - or outside should I say; twas a glorious afternoon. Good pint of Heineken, chirpy barstaff, all in all my new favourite lunchtime haunt.

The Angel, Roehampton

As an ex-local, I used to frequent this pub a lot, as does my old man to this day. Love the pub, bit of an overspill from the recently-condemned Kings Head, but still - very nice pub. Great for watching football or rugby, attracts a fiercely loyal local's crowd.

The Swan, Bank

Outstanding boozer - many a good night in here. Very good in the summer, in the shade but still have a vantage point for spotting the polly walking past.

The New Moon, Bank

Nice little summer pub to watch the skirt go by. Nigh on impossible to get served at lunchtimes in the summer, so get yourself round to the Swan.

The Counting House, Bank

I like this place - the "banking elite" seem to congregate here, for once you've waded through the swathes of pin-striped paunchers, you're sure to be met with a billowing haze of cigar smoke. Decent lager, can't speak for the ales as it's not my drink. Definately a favourite for xmas party-goers - pretty good bangers 'n mash at lunch.

The Jamaica Wine House, Bank

Love this boozer - marvel at the step which is steeped in history, or at least the last 100 years of punters. Shame about the dodgy tables and the smoke; not adverse to smokey pubs but this one should come with a gas mask warning.

Abacus, Bank

Typical night out for the younger city type, bit of a meet-market. Can't say much about the self-aggrandising doormen, dining out on the fact they bounce a bar in the city. Much better off getting down the Walkabout, cheaper with the same vibe.
