The 'Man' refers to himself - not the pub (which most posters think) is more than adequate. Good pizzas and ale, and riff-raff are not served!

The Opera House, Tunbridge Wells
Wetherspoon's finest. Impressive building, opened 1902 as an opera house - and later a cinema and bingo hall.
Periodically, operas are still performed - when the pub closes to allow them; the stage, and much of the original seating, still exists.
A lovely and unique setting for a few ales - with the venue's history illustrated on the walls. Now a listed building.

Yes - slerpy's post was unusual!
About a different pub - in another county - on The Hope page.
Mental issues, these days - sadly.

yeah, i work in esure up the road
staff are the problem in this pub, including ex-staff
it's all about the fireman, rugby player, all day bloke, failed actor, thigh slapper, absentee manager etc
we don't go in anymore after one barmaid told us - i need a pee...when she was texting

This pub has new management - although the jury is very much out on them. In the middle of October, a new/very large Waitrose supermarket will open next door to the pub - which will, presumably, become a type of waiting/meeting/holding location for supermarket customers.
Food is served in the pub and, also, in Waitrose (which will have an underground carpark) - and in a few surrounding cafes. Whether the pub and/or the new management will be able to cater for its new role remains to be seen - but initial observations of the new bar staff indicate a degree of inexperience.

Pity that Sara has now decided to censor the Oak's BITE page - all February and March posts have vanished!

Agree with the last poster - good to average beer here. That TGW bloke does go on a bit........
Check him out - he often talks/types on BITE about pubs he hasn't been in for years!

Sue is not too bright and rather inarticulte; this is a fine pub - under all headings. Much more of a chance being mugged in Purley, or having a riot.

The new Joules is opening on Friday, 27th July. Looks good, inside and out....

Ocean, the Abbot doesn't have a car park; that incident (a murder) took place in the municipal car park which is close to both pubs.

Mikey is on the white powder again.
This is an awful pub with untrained/foreign/agency staff.
One of the worst in London. The pubs in Victoria Station are in a much higher league!!
A BITE rating of 2 is far too high...

Simply bad/inept/uninterested management - who concentrate on the new football revenue.......
