The Jolly Gardeners, Vauxhall

Excellent German pub with cracking beer and food! If it wasn't just hat bit too far from home this would be my local!

Grand Union, Kennington

How can I put it? An upmarket Wetherspoons or a little bit of Yuppie Clapham in Kennington? Ideal if you an estate agent seeking a quick bottle of ubiquitous Peroni on the way up west!

The Ship, Lambeth

I absolutely love this pub since its refurb. Wonderfully friendly staff and a decent ale - and anywhere with Sambrooks on wins my vote! There has been, in my opinion, a dearth of decent pubs in the local area that slide between the pretentious (Grand Union, Three Stags) and the grotty (Dog House on a bad day), so The Ship is a breath of fresh air!

The Fire Station, Waterloo

All the charm of drinking in a portaloo with 5 strangers. Too packed, too noisy. Rubbish.

The Royal Oak, Borough

Fantastic pub. Not overly keen on Harveys ale, but the great atmosphere, friendly staff and cosy decor certainly make up for the (one) drawback. Good food too though the portions are huge!

A proper traditional boozer that is alive and well.

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

This pub is fantastic and is quite possibly in my top 10 of all time. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful with absolutely no attitude whatsoever (a triumph considering many other nearby establishments). Fantastic range of beers and great food, the cost of which doesn't leave you feeling like you've been mugged, to boot.

Yes it has the air of a church hall/community centre about it and you do wonder whether it's open on arrival. Yes some of the clientle are intensely, toe-curlingly annoying (in a goatee-sporting, media working, child called Fifi Trixibelle-type way), but I can't help it - I find it great!

The Three Stags, Lambeth

I can't help but notice the flurry of positive reviews on 28/29 August... dirty tricks by management?

I recently ventured back but the staff still remain rude and happier chatting to one another than to serve the customer. I really was annoyed by the 'too cool for school' attitude of one of the bar staff (older guy, possibly manager?) who snatched my money off me and then threw my change on the bar. A 'please' and 'thank you' would have been nice.

The food looks good but for the money the portions are meagre. There are also too many tables meaning it's impossible to easily get to the bar without squeezing past other tables. However, the range of beers is excellent.

I really do wish I could be more positive... this pub deserves to succeed...

The Kings Arms, Waterloo

An excellent pub. Crowded a lot of the time but on a cold autumnal weekend evening it's very cosy and comfortable. Great range of beers, friendly staff, plus nice (and cheap) Thai food in the back room.

The Ring, Southwark

Yes the staff can be a bit charmless but I love this pub. Although very modern, it's still cosy and the Thai food, served by friendly and helpful staff, is excellent! Highly recommended.

The Three Stags, Lambeth

Given up on this place now - despite the good beers I can do without the Dickensian twilight during the evenings and plain rude attitude of the majority of the staff, who all would seem to much prefer chatting to each other rather than, *gasp*, serving the customer.

Oh and isn't serving halfs of beer in unmarked glasses a touch illegal???
