had a table booked here friday 6th december, six of us up from brighton on the research, took the excellent barman all of 2 seconds to recognise us from our last trip about 2 years ago. beer was fantastic as usual, food was top notch, and the staff as accomplished as ever. a marvellous pub.

superb pints in here, well done out, by all accounts a vastly different boozer these days. Marvy pint of White Horse Guvnor 6.5% ensured a good nights kip.

had a fantastic pint of Dowbridge stout in this wondrous boozer. Joe bonamassa and Rory gallagher on the sound system, and my mate paulie pulling the bloody curtain rail off the wall. a great pub.
4 May 2013 14:34
what a boozer! great pint, fabulous array of beers, and although the guvnor was very busy he took time out to chat about forthcoming ales. terrific interior and exterior, a must-visit for the committed ale drinker.

The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham
great little boozer tucked up round the corner from new st station, an absolutely superb pint of Beowulf Killer Stout, and at 7.2% was not named in error. Hugely enjoyable experience.

The Great Western, Wolverhampton
christ! what a find. easier to find than you might imagine, on entering you are met with a warm welcome and a pub brimming with character. It would be worth a look even if the beer was catpiss, which it most certainly was NOT! in fact it was fabulous, and got the Marzipan Haters wolverhampton jolly-up off to a perfect start.
4 May 2013 14:14
had a pint as part of the Marzipan Haters wolverhampton jolly-up, pleasantly surprised by the quality of the beer and the diligence of the barmaid. all at distinctly non-brighton prices. glad we found it.
4 May 2013 14:07
had a fabulous pint with the rest of the Marzipan Haters, a really different type of pub. well worth a look.

The Three Jolly Butchers, Brighton
went last sunday for 1st time in bleedin years, primarily to see lunchtime jazz. not only were the gypsy jazz players fantastic, but the food was terrific, and apart from the ubiquitous harveys they also had Downlands Ruskins Ram which was in prime condition.i,ll be using this pub again, and recommend it to anyone crawling round the north laines area.

nipped for a pint 1st feb, cracking pint of old, raised a glass to the memory of lovely lisa Johnstone who i first met when she worked behind the bar here. God i miss her.
2 Feb 2013 15:02
went in for a couple on feb 1st, cotleigh snowy v.naice, kings old good as well.although some of the clientele makes you think of the cantina on Mos Eisley, the beer is well kept and the staff are pleasant enough.
2 Feb 2013 14:55
popped in a few days ago with some of the Marzipan Haters, all agreed that the maple porter is astounding.Still a great little boozer.
2 Feb 2013 14:48
pop in virtually every time i,m in town, always have a beer thats not commonly found in the area, one of the many plus points of having a nicholsons boozer in brighton. enthusiastic and more than capable staff, rallied by their affable and knowledgeable gaffer. always worth a go.
17 Nov 2012 12:19
from the hospital down to the pump house, theres now a fab array of boozers, starting with this one, friendly locals, good ales {rother valley beers, seldom seen this far west these days} and very good food served by friendly staff. a good starting or finishing point.
17 Nov 2012 12:07
good beer, you have an excellent choice of all things beery, however the last reviewers recommendation of trying hamptons down the road is an offer fraught with danger in a place like brighton. he,s right though, great to have two top class pubs so near to each other
17 Nov 2012 11:59
well worth the slight detour out of the main drag.well-kept ales and friendly, keen and efficient staff, probably the two essential constituents for a top drawer pub. only sorry we hadnt found it before.
17 Nov 2012 11:48
stopped off mid-arvo for pint and a bite with the Marzipan Haters, and although we,d missed the lunchtime rush, there were a few punters about.both the food and the beer were first-rate,and well priced.{tho' coming from brighton & hove up here for the week, everywhere seems cheaper!} part of a very good crawl
17 Nov 2012 11:42
used this pub a couple of times whilst on Marzipan Haters peaks piss-up tour2012, all the beers were in ace con, all overseen by the impressive sarah and the team. will always call in when hereabouts' great part of the area for a crawl.
17 Nov 2012 11:32
use this pub on a regular basis, usually sat arvo, always friendly staff, and, being a nicholsons boozer, always an interesting line-up of ale. well priced for the area.
21 Jul 2012 12:07
in recent times dom and barb have had otter bitter, bath gem and currently jennings queen bee alongside the ubiquitous harveys. not any more expensive than most pubs in hone, and a sight more welcoming than some.
23 Jun 2012 13:44
in on sat 16th june, first time for a while.Ace pint of Gadds no.5, friendly lot of non-farting punters.mind you, with no betting shop nearby, i suspect ixion encountered non-punting farters. still a very good boozer.
23 Jun 2012 13:37
The London Apprentice, Old Isleworth
first visit sat 16th june quiet but staff ok, and a gorge pint of Purity mad goose @ 3.55, which is favourable compared to what you can pay in some brighton pubs for catpiss.sat and watched the river roll by for a while,v.pleasant.
23 Jun 2012 13:31
was on a solo trip sat 17th june, first visit, very impressed, great line up of beer and cider. tried the Trumans swallow and swift, which was a refreshing start, then twickenham gothick dark, which was a beaut.will be returning with the rest of the Marzipan haters soon. well worth the trip. 8/10
23 Jun 2012 13:23
