The William Wilberforce, Hull

How come the 8 rating??

It's a sort of alternative Wetherspoons but without the ale choice. I don't think the original comments are justified though, me thinks a few chips on the shoulder there.....

Courts Bar, Hull

A dive. Cheap poor quality "beer". Dirty and noisy - avoid.

Zachariah Pearson, Hull

The only good things about the place are the name and the way out. Given Pearson's anti-alcohol principles, (about the only ones he had), it's quite a good joke.

The place is a dive with a very dodgy client base probably banned from elsewhere. If you're in the area and want a pint, go to the St. John's round the corner

Ye Old Blue Bell, Hull

The pub's great but if you don't like Sam Smith's you're snookered. It's very cheap of course and a nice atmosphere. Worth dropping in if you're on an Old Town crawl.

Hogshead, Hull

Deceased for some time despite being on a prime site. Can't understand how it got its rating of 8. Pity the reviews weren't posted.

Can't say anyone's missed it.

The Whalebone, Hull

Still going strong I'm pleased to say and lives up to the comments below. Can't say I'm keen on the "house" beer but there's plenty of other good stuff.

The Oberon, Hull

Dead, deceased, gone to the great brewery in the sky. Unlike the nearby Minerva, I don't hold out much hope of it ever reopening.

A great loss.

RIP

The Minerva Hotel, Hull

Recently closed down, probably for the duration of the fruit market regeneration. I believe the building is actually owned by the Council who want to preserve it as a pub. Although it's had its ups and down, it's part of the area's heritage and needs to be preserved and reopened. There's nothing like going down there on a summer's afternoon and taking in the view with a pint or two.

Three John Scotts, Hull

Of the three Wetherspoons in Hull probaby the best. I don't like what they've done to the Edwardian interior of the old Central Post Office but that's only me I suppose.

Usual 'Spoons beer and food with the the usual lack of staff should it suddenly get a bit busier than expected. But it is good value.

But if you're in the area, you're better off in the George, Olde White Hart, Walters or Black Boy which are pubs rather than barns.

Good place to watch satellite Footie then off elsewhere for a proper pint afterwards ;-)

Ye Olde Black Boy, Hull

Mafting, I think the jury's out on this one.It was badly run down by the previous tenant and hit by the opening of Walter's just round the corner. The new guys made a good start but there's been more than a few hiccups so far.

Those who went in during the time of Richard and then Alan will know the potential of this place and the affection and loyalty it inspires. Let's hope the new regime can deliver and put this place back into the Camra GBG which is its rightful place

Walters Bar, Hull

Usually between 6 and 8 constantly changing draught ales, draught Erdinger weiss & dunkel and Belgian fruit beers. Other continental draught beers availabler on druaght - a cut abover the usual Kronenburg etc. In fact Stella was taken out because nobody was buying it! Extensive wine list if that's your thing.

Has now extended upstairs with an extra bar at weekends.

Chav free zone with over 21s only policy. No pool, fruit machines or TV, just drinks and conversation.

A fine establishment - class, comfort and the finest beverages - a 21st Century pub

Pave, Hull

Three resident real ales and one regularly changing guest. Draught Schneiderweiss and Westmalle Dubbel + two Belgian fruit beers. Usual fizzy so-called "premium" lagers available as well. Ideal place to have lunch in the summer with the garden at the back.Food is good with regular specials.

Not much fun on weekend evenings when like everywhere else on Princes Ave it get packed out.

Very popular with both football and RL fans.

No pool, bandits, TV or baseball caps.

A fine establishment all in all
